I wanted to add some things because there is a lot of misinfo.
The Atkin's diet works....that's not to say nothing else does, it's just that the kinds of foods it allows you makes up for the lack of sweets many crave.
Still I don't care if you are losing weight or thin as a rail, a Pork Rind is never good for you. Neither is very high fat sausages at each meal.
The premise most people are assuming is the New Diet Revolution/Atkins is a ketosis diet. It is for the first two weeks only....I am not going to explain ketotis here because if I do it in layman's term it gets torn apart and I am not about to go on a three page diatribe.
The problem is Atkins may not be suitable for long term use. Doctor's do recommend it, my father was on it for 3-6months and it was prescribed. They then had him make his diet more 'regular', however without sweets and highly-glycemic carbs (these is removed from most people's diets would be all that's needed)....he was also told only lean cut meats and if he is using sausage use lite ones.
For me I don't like to waste time so I go for extremes (probably many of which would throw someone else in to cardiac arrest).....when I had gotten to 237lbs of fat from about 180-190lbs in shape I had enough.
My cardio was still decent, I had just gotten done with high school and my beginning college years....I was active just not extremely active like I was (I would be at the gym in the morning, karate or something similar at night each day while in school), so I made a grueling workout plan for myself about 2hours of non-stop weights, I cut back my food to about 75% (guestimate) of what my maintanence calories would be for 150lbs of lean muscle mass, and ran usually 2x a day 30-45mins, these were runs not jogs in the park

, I would be literally drenched, and I also added the 'terrible' Ephedrine/Caffiene combo to my plans.
First month I lost over a pound each day, I think I lost close to 45lbs.....second month and final months about 25 each...I am not saying it's better than atkins as a matter of fact I am sure it would cause many people a great deal of problems. My father would not be able to do this routine. I was banking on being young, and coming from a previously highly conditioned time.
However I will say for a diet if you were to stick with lean meats (turkey, chicken, some pork and beef cuts, some fish types (salmon and tuna are good)) with a portion of only 4-6oz, some vegetables, maybe a little whole grain (wheat, rye, pumpernickle) bread for taste and a little rice if wanted you'd drop weight....the trick is to find out how much food do you really need, most of the time even for those in shape it's less than they are already eating.
