In my case, the simple fact that it can't run Verizon. They are hands down the favorite service around here, best coverage, simple as that. My AT&T is spotty, relatively speaking. More than 1/2 the time I have no coverage at home. However, I seldom engage in extra-home telephone activity, so I live with it. T-Mobile is no better here, apparently.

Do a local survey among random smartphone users in my area and you'll come up with 80+% Verizon, and that's probably conservative. I have stopped asking.

I was with Verizon for many years before moving to ATT with this phone. I've always heard and believed that Verizon has the best coverage but to be honest, I have yet to experience an inability to make or take a call due to location or have and quality issues with a call. No doubt I would if I went far enough out in the country but for now all is good.

Still $29.99 this works great as an MP3 player, video player, and especially offline GPS navigation.

You don't even have to activate cell phone service!

Almost perfect. Battery is not user replaceable. What to do in about 2years when it can't hold a charge?

You throw it out and buy a new phone for $20?

Geez, even though the battery is replaceable, everyone will find something to complain about I guess.

For the life of me, I just don't understand why this phone is so loud (not voice settings, music / GPS voice stuff like that), setting it to 1 (out of 30?) is about 5x louder than my Moto G on the lowest setting. Going past 15 and the speaker can't take it, it sounds pretty bad at that level.

Obviously it's a case by case thing, a YMMV affair. In my region, AT&T and T-Mobile are spotty in terms of coverage. When I got my 520 I started asking random people I encountered who were holding their cell phones who their provider was. I stopped at about 10... every single one said Verizon IIRC. I got my impression about the spottiness of AT&T and T-Mobile by reading Yelp reviews, IIRC, possible also another review site. I'm sure there are regions where AT&T is fairly reliable, else they'd go out of business in short order. Here in the Berkeley/North Oakland area they aren't reliable, to put it mildly. I would never give someone my cell phone number if I wanted them to contact me and I didn't want to miss their call (I give them my landline # instead)! The only people I give my number to is folks who may call me when I'm traveling, i.e. family members.

Nokia 520, $37 ATM. Amazon, in my experience, changes their prices on items frequently, so...

Where I live (NE Florida), AT&T has the best coverage (near 100%.) Verizon has very good coverage but there is one 5-7 mile spot on my wife's commute that has a dead spot. T-mobile is fair and Sprint stinks around here.

My wife has been using AT&T prepaid for several years. She bought the 520 in October of 2013 and has had zero problems with it. Phonewise, it may be the best phone we have ever owned.

More and more apps are becoming available for W8 phones. Be sure to try out the Gestures beta app.

I think ATT coverage is the best in flat areas. if you're in a hilly or mountainous area, not so much.

Purchased this on Friday. Asked AT&T for an unlock code and they sent it on Sunday. I had to cut my old standard SIM to fit the micro SIM slot on this phone but it worked out fine. The phone is easy to use and we are very happy with the price!

There is a Virgin Mobile version but strangely enough that one -I- see as 99.99.

Thanks!

Grabbed one for offline GPS (and as a backup ATT) for an upcoming backpacking trip. 🙂

Jumps around like a jumping bean...

Edit 2: 2 minutes later back to 48.99... nutty.

This was one of their daily deals. I'm guessing they "sold out" of the number they had available for the daily deal.
