Damn it, I didn't read the post right, and consulted my wife before reading the FAQ 🙁 I was denied as I already have an unused Driod Ultra sitting in one of my drawers. She didn't care about the offline GPS feature 🙁

Grabbed two. Gonna activate with consumer cellular.

Christmas gift for the folks. Hopefully their Sprint #'s port over.

LOL I just "got it" and I'm the OP, nicely done

Nokia (not Nokia cellphone division Microsoft bought, but the other part of Nokia that is seperate) has a new google app called Here (Maps). It is in beta but it does not require a data connection to do the mapping, and it even does turn by turn directions while offline. Also does live traffic and public transportation supposedly. Here is the link to the playstore

Know someone that works there. They do good work and really strive to make their maps the most accurate ones in the market.

I got one to use as a cycling computer. There is a nice app called cyclometer that integrates with strava and also uses the offline loading of nokia maps. Also supports the BT stuff.

Great phone for price. I bought one at same price point last year for my 61 year old Dad's first smart phone. Also good for a backup phone or for those not familiar with WP & contents of the Microsoft Store.

This phone and ecosystem are hilariously awful.

Finally got to open it for xmas and what, what a crapfest. I shouldn't have expected any better really, but I can't even install apps because it says I need to add my name and birthday to my account, but none of the drop down boxes work for my birthday. It's hilarious really.

ATM it's $29.99. I've had one since February. If it drops to $20, maybe I'll get another in case I break or lose mine. You never know with Amazon when they'll drop or raise a price. It's my first smart phone, to me it's absolutely great.

Honestly, I thought this was going to be absolutely hell, but I can't say I hate it so far. I mean, there's some apps that I wish I had but overall, I kinda like the environment. I miss Chrome for sure though.

I think part of the appeal is that it's a $30 phone, I too would buy another at $20. I mean, $30 I have far less worry about my phone.

If anyone bought one and needs the tmobile version instead 521, PM me if you want to trade. It's practically brand new (1 month use), Cyan software and does normally cost more.

Did anyone snag the 635 for $40? I got it for my son and he's been using it the past few days and really likes it. I'm also impressed with how well it works. 8.1 is really nice for a touch interface. Up until now I only used it on my desktop.

Setup was super easy. I just created a Live account for him and he can access the MS Store to dl any apps or games he wants. Battery life it really good to considering he has been streaming Youtube and Netflix non-stop since he got it.

Over all impression is this a decent phone for the money. If they had a Verizon version for $40 I'd buy one for me. Thanks again for posting the deal Rossman.

I wish I would have gotten the 635. I thought for sure I'd hate windows phone, but honestly other than the lack of apps I'm pretty happy with it.

IE sucks...

Straight (talk) poop

I bought both the Metro PCS 521 and the AT&T 635 deals. Put a Straight Talk AT&T sim in the 635 without unlocking and it is great. Fantastic phone for the price, great battery life, wish I had bought several. Not so lucky with the 521. Put a Straight Talk T-Mobile sim in it but it still wants an unlock code.

Thats ok since I bought the 521 for its off line features and wifi and its fine there. I also like the in hand feel and buttons of the 521 better but the 635 beats it in performance.

Im not a microsoft fan and hate windows 8 on my desktop but its great on a phone. Like that it syncs so well with my other systems. Not much of a learning curve and easier than Android or WebOS IMHO, not that they are that difficult.

Now if it just catches on and the Apps appear from Banks and the like.
