Alien: Covenant (Prometheus sequel)

i was really excited about prometheus and it was alright so this will be a definite wait for redbox bluray.

it looks like hes remaking alien + a shaw/david backstory

Please correct the thread. This is NOT Alien 5. This is the sequel to Prometheus which in the timeline is before the first Alien (confused yet?)

Alien 5 (if it comes out) Is the Neil B. one that will have Ripley and Hicks back (after Aliens).

ahh.. wonder why they added the Alien moniker?

and hopefully Alien 5 includes Newt.

It wasn't supposed to be named that at first...originally he called it Paradise or Paradise Lost. I'm guessing the studio pushed him to make it more like Alien so they changed the name to attract more people.

I personally think the trailer looks pretty interesting...but then I am a fanboy of the series.
 
What's with the lack of protective equipment while exploring alien worlds in this universe? That's what got the Prometheus crew too. Basic space exploration 101 people.

bad decision.
just confuses the masses who think this will be the sequel to Alien 4.

they should have left the prequels without the Alien tag like Prometheus.
Leave the Alien tag for the Alien sequels.

they could have called this movie Prometheus 2: Paradise Lost.

About to watch this trailer. Prometheus was a huge disappointment, even though it had one of the best trailers EVER. I will keep my expectations low, even if this trailer seems to be awesome.

Well.. ur being too harsh.

The guy who pets cobra was possibly the most retarded scene ever filmed, ok, but aside from that the film tries to be smart with concepts ... which aren't particularly complex. It was a bit boring, but i wouldn't call it awful.

I don't care to go into all the reasons again (not right now, anyway). They are far too numerous. I will make no more apologies for that terrible film.

I feel even more cheated than having other directors ruin the franchise (I'm OK with ignoring those films completely). It stings that Prometheus was by Ridley Scott. I can't really ignore that one and pretend it's not canon.
 
Seeing that the one writer isn't involved and that Prometheus had a fair amount going for it (namely visuals, although I'd say that's more about the cinematography than the visual design which wasn't particularly noteworthy, just like a more organic version of the Alien design), I'll see it at some point. But I'm not obsessive about the franchise or Scott's work (I like some of his stuff but I don't really find any of it the seemingly transcendent experience that some people apparently do). If the feedback is good I'll probably have more interest in watching it, if its mixed like Prometheus was then I'll probably just watch it whenever it ends up on Netflix.

I'm much more interested in Alien 5, although there's a distinct possibility that it might not be good, especially if its actually trying to make the overall story post Aliens work.

Prometheus I think was originally a full prequel to Alien but then Scott wanted to change it supposedly so he wouldn't have to make it feel like an Alien movie.

I think there's some truth to that ("cinematic universe"), but Scott made Prometheus an Alien movie he just didn't call it one (because there are differences, but its set in the same universe, has blatant similarities in design and other aspects). Honestly I think it was just some nonsense where Scott wanted to either art it up (Prometheus! Its an origin story!), and felt that the Alien franchise was tarnished and would hurt its chances (as people would come in expecting a typical Alien movie). I think now he can drop all pretense and maybe he can win over the people who hated Prometheus.
 
I was hoping for something grander, inspiring rather than a horror movie of human impaling monsters. Been there done that, looks boring in that respct.
 
I was incredibly hyped for Prometheus and just completely let down. I think I'll wait for Redbox/Netflix for this one.
