When Each components alone suck more than 400 watts, that's how

It's pretty unrealistic to have both pegged at 100% though, unless you are imposing some sort of artificial stress test on it. My 12900K doesn't even use 100W in gaming, granted its not overclocked to 5.5GHz all core or whatever. If thats your thing, then yeah, maybe those 1500W PSUs might be a good idea :D

Someone with the budget for the 12900KS and 3090 Ti should have enough for a premium 1500W PSU

Yeah but the online PSU calculators will dupe people into thinking 1000W would be sufficient.
I'm pretty sure its sufficient as long as you aren't overclocking both the CPU and GPU.

Realistically speaking, only seasoned overclockers would have the means to push a 12900KS upwards of 400W (and have it run stable without throttling!), since youll be running some sort of high end waterblock or maybe even exotic cooling. They'll proabably also be pushing a 3090 Ti well north of 500W too.

You'd think that sort of crowd would be smart enough to invest in an appropriately powered PSU, but I could be wrong :p

It was drawing 400+ Watts with stock settings. I was not being Overclocked

"As for overclocking, we didn't try to push the 12900KS further as it's clearly thermally limited in our setup. We imagine very few will seriously overclock this CPU, it seems like something reserved for extreme overclocking using liquid nitrogen. "

426W is system power consumption though, not the CPU alone. I am still surprised at how much more power the 12900KS is pulling relative to the 12900K though - don't they both have a 241W PL2 limit?

But that is with a 6900XT and in Blender which does not stress the total system that much(as you can see it's using 221 Watts on the 5950X), But look at here where the same CPU and Card(5950X and 6900XT) are pulling about 509 Watts

Then the 3090 Ti is pulling 700 Watts(With the very efficient 5950X), Extrapolating the data(from Techspot) we can clearly see that It will exceed 1000 Watts with a 12900KS

Wow. That Doom on Nightmare Quality can actually prove to be a nightmare with 12900KS and 3090 Ti. And what about the 13900KS and 4090 Ti? 1500W just became the new 1000W.

You know what? I've never wanted to do a Youtube video testing 1000W PSUs but now I want to :D

Good thing I'm not rich. I would have a dozen PSUs ordered already.

There was testing when ADL was released, DDR4 4000'ish vs DDR5 6400 and it was very similar performance. I can't find that video right now, but many games were tested by some russian site.

EDIT: found it, was actually DDR5 5400CL34, so DDR5 6400CL32 would improve performance some more.

These guys later went ahead and tested RAM OC for two sets of DDR4 and DDR5: Hynix DJR and Samsung B-die for DDR4 and Micron (the early crap DDR5) and Hynix (newer and better DDR5). The results are interesting, though the conclusion doesn't change too much. It depends on the game as to which one (DDR4 or DDR5) is better.

Your MT score is already far better than the 12900KS tested up there.

Not easy to find i7-1260P laptops even after they are supposed to be available. This sole one on Amazon.ae is paired with LPDDR4X. Seriously, MSI? With that price, don't you think people deserve LPDDR5-6400?

@igor_kavinski

I've been eyeing up a laptop version as well but, MSI is bottom of the barrel with features compared to other vendors. If you want mainstream options - https://laptopmedia.com/specs/?q=&h...H&dFR[display_size_txt][0]=15" and 16"&is_v=1

This is helpful for finding what's on the open market and you can adjust the filters. For not so mainstream options though Clevo has a good 10-20 options of varying configurations but, you have to dig through each model to see what's being offered or use Xotic's listings - https://xoticpc.com/collections/cus....6”&tab=products&sort_by=price&sort_order=asc

It's cumbersome to say the least when trying to narrow things down with ADL.

Intel Comments On Alder Lake's Warping and Bending Issues, Mods Void Warranty

Our internal data show that the IHS on 12th Gen desktop processors may have slight deflection after installation in the socket. Such minor deflection is expected and does not cause the processor to run outside of specifications. We strongly recommend against any modifications to the socket or independent loading mechanism. Such modifications would result in the processor being run outside of specifications and may void any product warranties." —Intel Spokesperson to Tom's Hardware.

Now I wonder what is 'running outside of specifications' of a processor...

This is not good at all. Over time, the loading mechanism may lower boost clocks and also damage the mobo. It hasn't been even a year since ADL's launch. Intel could be hit with a class action suit if thousands of ADL mobos start bluescreening at once.

Been awhile since I heard about the socket warp issue. Guess we'll just have to see how many Alder Lake sockets start to fail? Might never happen.
