Alan Wake has emerged from the darkness of console exclusivity and will finally make his way to the PC, developer Remedy Entertainment has announced.

Coming in "early 2012," Alan Wake on PC features the original, critically acclaimed title, first released on the Xbox 360 in May 2010. Remedy also confirms the PC version will include both 'The Signal' and 'The Writer' downloadable content add-ons, as part of the planned release.

A spokesperson for Remedy Entertainment could not confirm PC-specific features--such as DirectX 11 support--for the PC version of Alan Wake to Shacknews when asked, saying no details are available at this time.

Though the game was reportedly discovered in the Steam registry, the spokesperson would not confirm the game's distribution channels, whether a retail release was planned, or if the game would be linked to Microsoft's Games for Windows Live platform.

I'm really hoping it doesn't require GFWL!

It's suppose to have SteamWorks. Didn't think they added on top of that too?

Wonder if anyone cares? This game was suppose to be the bomb years ago, but then they threw in the PC bashing and with held it.

Ha, just read the shacknews bit, so Microsoft really did 'kill' the PC!

Hmmm...I gave up on this long ago and decided to watch a full playthrough on YouTube. It was kinda interesting, but it doesnt seem like something you experience twice.

I'm interested, but not at full price. Never played it because it's an Xbox title. I do like me a good adventure game though.

I bought a copy of PC gamer and read an article about this game, supposedly coming soon, in like 2005. Holy fuck, it's still not out on PC? Insane.

They waited 2 years to bring it to the PC so they won't mind me waiting until it's $5 to buy it.

Bought it and beat it on 360 awhile back.

Meh. It's decent, but thoroughly predictable and linear. Somewhat of a letdown.

Bad enough that PC game hating Microsoft made them delay the PC version for two years, but it better not have GFWL on it.

lol Alan Wake. There was a thread on their forums asking for suggestions. I suggested they make it 3rd or 1st person selectable by the gamer like Oblivion. They balked and said Alan Wake has always been 3rd person only. I countered I'd pass on it then. Who knew they would be delaying it this long. Who cared?

The delay you can thankfully to MS. Considering that they picked up the publishing for it and I wouldn't doubt they put a 2 year exclusively deal for the 360 in there. I remember back when it was getting close to coming out, out of nowhere they cancelled the PC version even though they had been working on it the entire time. At the time everyone just figured since MS was publishing it was now 360 exclusive. Seems Remedy just had a long wait instead.

Sucks for them though, cause they burnt a lot of people with them doing this crap and now they want to charge full retail 2 years after it has initially come out. It better be nearly revamped for the PC and come with all the DLC as part of the package, otherwise this is a Steam sale title now.

Yeah, they've been talking about this thing for many years. And the weird thing was that they used it as a tech demo for the PC (Directx 10 or whatever it was at the time I think) and then they end up dumping it on the Xbox.

Sheesh. I remember hearing about this back in the early dual-core days, about how it was supposed to really benefit from it.

First heard about this game like 9 years ago I think. It's pretty overrated, but I wouldn't mind getting it at a discount.

Well, after reading the interview with RPS, I think this game will turn out to be a shitty console port. The developer dodged all the questions, and didn't even confirm the addition of DLCs for free.

I've a feeling it'll end up being limited to 16:9, no AA, 30 FPS limit, with horrible input lag/mouse acceleration.

I thought it was a fantastic game. If you haven't played it on Xbox already, it's great fun.

RPS: The other question is slightly desperate; can you promise there will be no Games for Windows Live?

Aki Järvilehto: (laughs) We don’t want to comment on other platforms. Today Remedy are supporting three platforms; Xbox 360, Steam and iOS. Those are the platforms we currently support. Do we plan on supporting more platforms in the future? Well, who in the industry wouldn’t? With regard to the specific question about GFWL, I think it would be unfair to comment at that right now.

RPS: I think we’re more concerned because certain games, even on Steam, still include GFWL functionality. Is that going to be involved?

Aki Järvilehto: Alan Wake PC will be released on Steam using Steam’s technology. Whether it will support any additional technologies in the future remains to be seen.

Ok...

I remember being pissed off when they announced it would be a 360 exclusive. Ended up renting and played it on a friend's 360. The game was fun, but forgettable. Huge letdown.

The comments under the rockpapershotgun article are funny read.

So, according to some of the posters - the DLC for Alan Wake continued the story of the main game? Microsoft didn't include the entire plot, and made you buy the DLC to finish it?

Please tell me that's not true.
