Can a fetus get child support payments if it is a person? Also if the mother is not a citizen but the fetus was conceived in the US does that mean the fetus cannot be deported, since if it is a person it would be considered a US citizen?
I can't remember which state was doing it, but one of the states (GA?) New law made it so the baby in the mother can claim them as a child on their tax return lol.

I want to see someone claim to have quintuplets and then miscarried them all after the year ended.

Stole my idea of challenges to personhood of fertilized egg by putting it on federal return as dependent and taking rejection to federal tax court.

Questions easily answered should SCOTUS decide that an unborn child is a person. If we grant citizenship to a child born here, not difficult at all to extend that concept to those conceived here.

Women and doctors are now 2nd-class citizens in Alabama. They should vote with their feet and leave. Let the conservative disease die out naturally.
Inbred shithole of a state.

Not to be overlooked is the strangeness of the mentality in AL. They dominated the collegiate football arena for several years running, obviously taking great pride in doing so and were utterly humiliated in the last national championship game. They are for sure smarting badly and need to exact their revenge. What easier target than the "weaker sex?" For shame.
Just to add to this Alabama also views any kind of funding for medical care as socialist!!! so there is nothing to aid these children or adult victims of rape and incest deal with the mental and physical costs of being forced to carry children to term and beyond.

Just a complete and utter fuck over of women in the state.

It's going to be hilarious when SCOTUS decides that for the purposes of citizenship a fetus is not a person but is a person when it comes to abortion. The logic is going to be so insanely convoluted.

Maybe we should sue and see if the 2nd applies to them too so we can arm the fetus.

You know what's going on, I hope -- the whole point is to force a Supreme Court challenge now that it's rigged in conservatives' favor and hope that they effectively overturn Roe v. Wade. I suspect that even a biased SCOTUS would reject the Alabama and Georgia laws, but that isn't stopping southern Republicans from fantasizing about imposing a theocracy.
I agree with this reasoning. Otherwise, the law would make no sense at all.

Yep this is exactly the reason. The hope isn't necessarily to make abortion illegal at the federal level (although that would be their ideal), they would likely settle for the SCOTUS deferring abortion to the states.

Ironically, over time, this will mean the ruin of those states (interesting that these states are also those who receive the most federal subsidies, huh?).

Time to increase welfare now so that they can take care of all these new babies right?

Not really. There are already wild inconsistencies on the legal rights we extend to the unborn. If you were to murder a pregnant woman, the family would mourn two deaths, not one. Viability is a poor threshold for personhood, as a fetus is capable of experiencing pain in the first trimester.

Abortion is a sh!tty topic for which there is no good answer. I reject the notion that a fetus is just a clump of cells. I also reject limiting abortion in absence of investments in birth control and sex education.

Yes, Republicans were ALL FOR abortion... until they lost the College Football Championship.
I see stupidity can be bipartisan.

My point was prepare for more, even wilder, inconsistencies.

If the pro-lifers really wanted to stop abortions then contraception would be promoted aggressively nationwide without limitation, for free, and have medically advanced so much that it's low side effect and foolproof. That they hate fucking is the actual problem and don't think women should be doing it (men get a pass).

Well, I'm gonna say the questions (and there are many questions) are clear as mud...

Deportation is a federal matter, not a state one. If SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade, the US Congress would need to pass a law saying a zygote/embryo/fetus cannot be deported in order for that to be the case, and the odds of such a law passing are very slim even if there's a GOP-majority in both houses again: 1) Nobody's going to want to force illegal immigrants to get tested for pregnancy and 2) the GOP generally hates that so-called "anchor babies" are American citizens.

So you'll have no problem paying more taxes for support of this child if born to a poor person or single mother, Good to hear.

Yup, and since they voted for it, they shouldnt receive any assistance federally.

But we all know why they're doing this, and they outright admitted it.

Stand your ground for the unborn. I can see it now.

Where you messed up is conflating a family's feels with actual laws that recognize a fetus as a person, there aren't any. Sure there are increased penalties for murdering a woman and her fetus but they are similar to hate crimes penalties and no one thinks hate crime victims get additional rights that non hate crime victims get.

People can try and take a middle road with abortion but in order to be logically consistent there can only be two positions; abortion is legal and the woman has control over her own body or abortion is murder. There is no logical consistency to those that say a woman has a right to an abortion...except... Just as there is no logical consistency for people who believe that a woman cannot murder a fetus...except...

Women either have control of their body or they don't.
