Al-Qaida's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri called U.S. President George W. Bush a "butcher" and a "failure" in a videotape aired on Arab television Monday, his first appearance since an American airstrike that targeted him this month in Pakistan. Al-Zawahri, shown in the video wearing white robes and a white turban, said the Jan. 13 airstrike killed "innocents" and said the United States had ignored an offer from al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden for a truce. Butcher of Washington, you are not only defeated and a liar, but also a failure. You are a curse on your own nation," he said, referring to Bush. "Bush, do you know where I am? I am among the Muslim masses." The airstrike hit a building in the eastern Pakistan village of Damadola, killing four al-Qaida leaders. Thirteen villagers were also killed in the strike, angering many Pakistanis.

What a thug. Perhaps your buddy Mohammed Atta is a butcher.

Why is it that Al Jazera has no problem making contact with these people but we can't find them with both hands, a map and a flashlight? (Not to mention a couple billion dollars worth of satellites predator drones) Maybe we should start tracking AJ personnel.

Every time one of these tapes pops up I want to pull my hair out.

IMO the bombing in which we attempted to kill al Zawahiri is an illustration of the fact that we are still sorely lacking in human intelligence. All the satellites and U2 overflight in (or above!) the world aren't going to tell us the locations of individuals like al Zawahiri and bin Laden (assuming we are even looking for the latter). We need spies on the inside, and we have apparently not been successful in making much headway in infiltrating al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations from within.

Frankly, I think that's because the United States lacks credibility among the Muslims in the region. We support Israel, right or wrong. We support people like Hussein, and the Taliban then totally reverse our position when we need a bogeyman.

If you were a Muslim who wanted peace, would you trust the United States? I wouldn't.

The US never supported the Taliban. Who didn't support Hussein in some way? Israel is the main problem. However, the Arab governments need the Israeli-Palestianian conflict so their populations will concentrate on that issue instead of home.

To whooseyerdaddy,

Al Jazera does not contact Al-Quida---its my understanding that Al-Quida contacts Al-Jazera via multiple couriers. Even if the end person in the chain of couriers is captured they would have to backtrack through a dozen or more couriers to ever get back to the tape originator or Al-Quida.

Somewhat paranoid precautions but its by in large worked for them. Nor will destroying the messenger which is Al-jazera do any good------like it or not Al-Quida does have means to gets its message across. -------in which Al-Quida takes delight in taunting Bush while hiding under some rock afraid to show their faces.

Wait, I may have miss placed my tin foil hat, but this is obviously a fake right? Cause he referenced Osama's tape it has to be a fake because the government faked the tape? Isn't that what the consipiracy theorists want us to believe?

While many Muslims may very well wish for peace, the appointed or self-proclaimed leaders of the region haven't exactly been honest brokers in the peace process...I am no fan of Israel either, as its creation only further destabilized a region that was still recovering from European imperialism.

No, I would trust Muslim clerics that preach hateful rhetoric towards the western world and want to spread fundamentalist theory that will drive back society to the middle ages.
I would trust the "Muslim" media that uses conspiracy theories as a basis for fact. Even better I would probably trust people like Eatspam on Internet message boards that spew the same silly excuses everytime a peace loving terrorist is criticized or has something to say.

Things would be no different...power corrupts, regardless of gender, and many successful women business and political leaders have demonstrated a capacity for the same types of behavior as men.

I have worked for both male and female managers...I have certainly encountered my fair share of incompetent or unethical male managers, but have yet to encounter a female manager that can pull her own weight, or who I would even consider looking up to as a mentor or role model.

Answer is simple. Al Jazera doesn't contact them, they contact Al Jazera. Everyone knows where their office is, just pass the tape along to your 20 or so contacts until you get far away enough that you can mail it to a set up location you have with Al Jazera that no one else knows. Also making sure that the 20 or so contacts in the chain don't know each other so there is no way to track it back if its compromised.

Its much easier for them to find Al Jazera in a phone book or on the WWW, than it is for the CIA to find them in some remote cave.

Benefit of the Cold War. After Reagan, it was felt that ELINT was more valuable than HUMIT. Now Congress is realizing that both are needed.

We condemn the "terrorists" when they kill groups of civilians. Yet we brush it off when we do it. Why is that? It's because we're hypocritcal and as Americans we can do no wrong. Because according to us, if they aren't American, they're not really people anyway. Man this country is going down the crapper fast. I think this country needs it's own V ... remember remember the 5th of November.

I agree with that part.

They're both butchers....

And they are both hypocrits.

Al-Zawahri is responsible for many deaths and failures in his earlier days in Egypt.

It really is as simple as that. Only problem is; Atta's days of butchering are over, Herr Bushler's just getting warmed up.

The simple answer is when it happens as a result of the US it was an accident or collateral damage. The terrorists are targeting the civilians. That is the key difference, and if you refuse to accept that then you are a fool.

If the US was intended to kill civilians we could kill them by the millions without much effort.

In my deepest heart of hearts, I wish I could that, but with the Bushwhacko neocons, including Cheney, Wolfowitz, et al, I can't. They started the war in Iraq based on lies, and every one of those deaths are on their heads, regardless the intent of any given attack.

They've already killed tens of thousands of Iraqi's, plenty of whom are innocent civilians. Give them enough time to continue their folly, and they may make it. :(
