Does anyone else feel the show has been getting overly dramatic since the second season begun?

I'm not sure season 2 has figured out what it wants to be yet. I think someone new has control of the characters and hasn't yet settled into them.

Rarity was a travesty in episode 3. I'm now seven and a half minutes into episode 5 and it seems the old Rarity is back, if just a touch more cartoony at times.

... is just not Rarity. She has better control over herself than that.

Fluttershy has missed the mark in every episode I've seen. I want the old Fluttershy back.

Rainbow Dash wasn't a tomboy in Luna Eclipsed, she was an ass.

Pinkie Pie used to have her own logic, but she seems to have lost that and is just being crazily random. (The reveal in episode 4 could have come straight from the old Pinkie and puts her previous behavior in that episode into context, but it was only a single line)

I hope they figure it out. There's still genius all over the place in the show but it's just not coming together like it did in season 1.

I avoided posting during season 1, I was enjoying everything and had fun torturing people by forcing them to watch the show.
Now season 2 and something just seems off...There's not as much awesome detected, or maybe just a lot more roll eyes.

That and now I'm forced to watch the show windowed on YouTube on my 6yr old 240x320 2" cell phone screen.
Surfing and typing with a 9 key is a pain in the ass...but it does help fill my empty days (I'm homeless now, yay?!).

Wonder where they produce the show...maybe I should take a trip down there.

yeah, something seems off about the characters in season 2. I noticed that their dialog and animation/expressions are really over dramatized, but there was something else I couldn't quite put my finger on.

DominionSeraph seems to have a good idea about what seems to be off about the characters; and I agree with his assessment. The last ep with the multiple cutie marks seemed to bring things a bit back in line, so maybe it was just a phase with the first few eps.

Someone explain the fascination with unicorns to me...?

Is this supposed to be ironic? Some kind of "in joke" that I don't get....?

having watched most of the episodes :sneaky: i'm convinced it's an elaborate troll

I definitely agree that they're not being fair to Rarity's personality, but otherwise I don't think they're too different. Rainbow Dash was always an ass, btw. She serves a purpose but if I were to live in Ponyville I would be afraid of her laughing at me. 🙁

Fluttershy I don't think they've shown enough of to determine how they're treating her character, save the Discord episodes where she is completely and utterly Fluttershy. The "I *am* weak and helpless!" line alone made me want to break my vow to Apple Bloom. <3

Overall I do agree that the episodes are a bit crazier, though. The writers have become self-aware and know how much we love crazy meltdowns and memes so they try to work them into every episode, and sometimes they try too hard. On average I wouldn't put the six episodes so far any lower than season 1 as a whole, though.

Damn it, lost my post. (cat on keyboard)

The real Rainbow Dash would've pulled a prank or two and then gone off to see what everypony else was doing. She wouldn't have kept doing the same thing obsessively.

It was cute and funny but not Fluttershy. She was too sure of herself. Her fright up to that point was all wrong (not meek and shy) and she should've been terrified and wary of the butterflies, not conversational.

Episode 3 her voice wasn't soft and nurturing like it should've been.

Episode 4 she was again more energetically scared than meek.

On average I wouldn't put the six episodes so far any lower than season 1 as a whole, though.

Long-running series tend to become about the characters, though. Season 1 had them; season 2 is struggling a bit.

Yeah we already had an episode about pranks, and they drew a pretty clear line that they wouldnt prank people it would harm...they crossed that line in the luna episode. Should have moved on to other varieties of pranks.

I kinda feel like they should have started a clearer more important story arc in season 2. They had that festival they were working towards all through season 1. I don't think kids are really that stupid, they can follow a story book read in pieces every night...I think they could still enjoy the show with the episodes tied together in a more meaningful way.

Link.
Background music.

That one was a bit of a disappointment. Luna's been out for awhile now, but she still acted like she just got out. Has there been any....I don't know, therapy or anything going on? Something to acclimate her to the world now?

They do seem a bit "off" though. "I've never seen Twilight so upset before!" So then they all just hang around and do nothing?

Hopefully the "new management" there figures out what they're doing again. And yes, larger story arcs would be nice.
And of course, Discord should stop by to entertain the troops, from time to time. 😀

The ending to the new episode was predicted in the first comment to the initial synopsis announcement from over a month ago. :hmm:

That is because it is an ironic outcome, and it's a cartoon. Anyone who watches cartoons should be able to predict, with pretty good precision, what the outcome will be based on a synopses. All the other 'pets' fit in well with their owners, so somepony needed to have the ironic pet. It's a cartoon universe rule.

Then they throw a wrench in it all - next episode, the tortoise falls and maims two legs and develops an infection, and they all have to learn a lesson about saying a permanent goodbye to a new friend.

The
Pinkie Sense
is back. :awe:

New episode was great, probably my joint favorite with Lesson Zero for this season. A bit more conservative in its humor relative to that one but I think it maintained the funny at a more consistent level.

A dam?! I thought there was no electricity in ponydom and those that we think used electricity are powered by unicorn magic.

And ponies make for bad engineers.

It took me months to get the brushy brushy thing. At first she didn't interest me as much as other background ponies, but...
