Ran fine for me at 1680x1050.

Logging in is a little confusing if you need to be entering a key. I chose the offline mode. Vids its ok.

Mouse movement is jerky....somewhat annoying.

Other than that very good overall so far. Has a classic feel to it. Easy so far. Couple hours in hopefully ill have more to say on it later.

I have AoW1 and 2 with expansions from some Steam sale, I'm hoping to play them before AoW3 (maybe by then AoW3 will be itself in a Steam sale) :)

Downloaded off steam last night, buggy.

Visual distortions, random black boxes, have to turn resolution down below 1600x1200 in order not to get visual artifacts.

I would let this one marinate for awhile unless you are running a monitor below 1600x1200

You don't need to go that low, I think that alert was a misprint.

I had the balck box issue, but it was running on my monitors 2560x1440 resolution. Drop the game res to 1080p and you should be fine.

Great game so far, though I've just completed one map so far.

I opted into the beta on Steam and high resolution works fine now.
Great game, definately a worthy successor. I played it a bunch this weekend and loved it.
Reminds me a bunch of the HoMM series.

This is the hardest strategy game I have ever played. I have been playing strategy games for 25 years and I cannot beat the 2nd tutorial battle. What am I missing here lol?

Age of Wonders has a very different style of gameplay. Its a lot like Disciples except on a large battlefield.
You need to really think about what each unit can do for you. Make good use of special abilities. Make use of your precious leader but dont get him killed either.

I recommend Youtube walkthroughs for noobs. It helped me.

I loved the AoW games, and was going to buy this, but then I got sucked into the Elder Scrolls Online. One of the things I really liked about the older games was that you could lose... glad to hear the new one is tough also.

Watched a lets play video of this game a few days before release, and it looks like it has all the mechanics of the older games I liked, but not sure how I feel about not 'having to have the last hit' for exp for your heroes (felt that added a layer of strategy).

Will be buying once I get bored of ESO. Great to have games you really want to play on backlog... :p

OK in the first tutorial mission, they give you a settler unit to introduce you on how to build a new city. On the very next turn, enemy attacks city with two full stacks of tier 2 units against my 4 damaged tier 1 units.

Yes, this is the tutorial mission. Yes, it is on easy difficulty.

Has anyone been able to find a list of spells based upon your hero class and starting selections?

I would like to be able to look at all spells available and compare.

I might jump in this weekend and buy it. I played both games back in the days and they were amazing strategy games.

I'm only about halfway through the first tutorial mission (been sick), but the majority of the gameplay seems the same, minus two things - you can only have 6 units in a stack (instead of 8), and ranged units seem to always hit. If you remember the colored (red/green) dots and the red circles showing where a wall or other obstacle was... you get something similar but instead of tons of misses, you might only do a little damage instead of full damage.

Did you take a long time to advance? I got that city up and it was never attacked. Granted I have about 6 Ravens flying around exposing the map and grabbing gold/treasure, so maybe the AI is busy trying to hunt them down.

Apparently I was going through it too fast and the difficulty was actually on hard hehe. I got the hang of this game now and am really enjoying it.

Getting my ass kicked on the first campaign mission. The enemy (orc) seems to attack frequently and with 10-12 units each time. How he manages to rebuild those massive armies of expensive units so quickly is mind-boggling.

Any time I advance on a city or standing army I use up tons of resources and need many turns to recover.

Would it be better if I scouted the whole map quickly and took over what I can right away?

TBS Enthusiast here.
I'm really enjoying the game. just started the 4th mission of the first campaign. I didn't find the game too difficult on Hard setting with Classic Turns. Also, I didn't encounter any bugs yet (GOG version), will spring for the DLC in the future (2 extra campaigns).

Pro tip: save before the last battle of every map. not all heroes continue to the next map, so after you know which heroes do go on, load that save and transfer all items from the heroes that won't be available.
I had no sort of AOE damage until the end of the 2nd map, but now I have this lightning rod that basically wins the game for me :)

i never tried Simultaneous, but i imagine that in that mode, you move a unit, then the AI moves a unit and so on until you run out of moves, instead of cycling through your units and moving, and then clicking End Turn.

No you move in real time all of your units at the same time that you could during one normal turn.

Really liking this game. Slowly starting to understand all of the components of the game. Couple UI issues I would change, but so far this is the type of game I was hoping Fallen Enchantress would be.

Yeah, FE was a big let down. AOE3 is also much better than Warlock: Master of the Arcane from last year (although i hear there is a sequel now).

Yes, Warlock 2 was in Steam Flash sale or daily or community (don't remember which) a couple of days ago at $14.99 so it might come back at that price if it comes back again in the event. I bought it but haven't played it yet.

I freaking love this game!
I believe i'm on the last map of the first campaign. played all maps on Hard, Classic turns, i'm walking around with a Hero squad (upto 4 heroes) and owning everything.
I sometimes find myself at a point of Over-Expansion that things get out of hand, so i concentrate on defending an area and then setting out and conquering the map.

i think i'm over-dosing on the game though. need to take a break.

For the last mission I gave the dwarf hero mana nuke and equipped full fire resist gear on my heros. I then proceeded to bum rush the dragon roost and all the enemy armies, beat it in under 20 turns haha. It was fun taking out a 6 hex stack army of 30+ units with one guy lol.

Am I crazy or are trebuchets really OP? Huge range, no damage decay with range, resistant to ranged attacks, easy and cheap to build... I'm thinking of ditching my archers and longbowmen for trebuchets in all my armies.
