For those who are fan of Age of Wonders (AOW); AOW 3 has officially been announced with a target date of August 2013 for release.

The first screen seems to show the strategy map, the next two look like different combat maps.

Was expecting some publisher grabbed up the rights for a quick buck on a sequel, but this looks really good; done by the original devs.

The only strategy game I love more than Heroes of Might and Magic 2, is AoW... now I can't wait :p

I suspect not; they used hex in their earlier aow games.

Did not realize they were making this, I always assumed the franchise was dead. This looks *really* good. I always liked how AoW was a good balance between HoMM and MoM gameplay.

Nice.

During the commentary, they said something like 'we want to attack from behind the target, which takes one of it's retaliation strikes, without it being able to use it'.

A big reason I hated Fallen Enchantress, is that the combat is simply hit til stuff is dead; adding in actual strategy to the fight through positioning along with what skill/spell to use like AOW3 does is what any game like this should have.

I just hope the AI isn't casual'ed down to todays standards. Leave your cities unprotected in AOW2, and the enemy would take advantage of it, usually with multiple 8 stacks.

Turns out it wasn't August. It's on Steam for pre-order today for $39.99.

Watch the second video; so many of the little things I loved about AoW seem to be in the game.

One of the many games that look interesting so I have copies of the previous ones but never installed yet.

remember playing one of the earlier games. how about we combine civilization and total war and then put it in a fantasy setting

Age of Wonders III released today and I picked up a copy on Steam. Played a few hours and I've been enjoying it so far. Be warned however as the dreaded "one more turn" sickness is sure to infect you, should you get too close. :p

For anyone that enjoys the Heroes of Might & Magic franchise or even Civilization V, this should be on your list. No crashes or bugs found yet and it runs like glass with everything maxed out. Worth checking out.

Downloaded off steam last night, buggy.

Visual distortions, random black boxes, have to turn resolution down below 1600x1200 in order not to get visual artifacts.

I would let this one marinate for awhile unless you are running a monitor below 1600x1200
