Aftermarket modifications to crappy cars - Why?

The people who own those cars are delusional and stupid. Don't bother trying to wrap your head around what they do; it will never make sense.

If they are driving aggressively and actively *looking* for a fight, I like to call that opportunity. Can we say aircraft carriers by the top of second?

Kinda mean I admit, but I don't kid myself for one second that this same person wouldn't be ALL up in my shit if I was in my stock beater Camry. My Camry is slower than many average slow cars, so when one of those many average slow cars happens to be riced out, it just adds insult to injury when I'm in the Camry and they are playing their little games.

Otherwise if they are just pudding along and minding their own business and trying to keep their farting on the down low, then to each their own; I just continue about my business and cry a little inside for the car.
I agree.

BTW I drive a Contour with the 2.0L Zetec with auto. This car is slow, but kind of fun. I thought about some aftermarket rims, but the stock ones are fine for now. I might just get a decent cd deck for it as it came with a tape deck (factory).

One exhaust pipe for each cylinder! :awe:

The "because they don't have money" excuse is bullshit. The reason is that some people are just ignorant. They just don't know anything about cars, because they read magazines that glorify bad cars, and shows that glorify bad cars, etc.

I'll point to a $5,000 Honda with $3,000 of crap parts on it and say, Wow, that guy is a dumbass. And somebody will say ITS BECAUSE HE'S POOR, LEAVE HIM ALONE! And I'll say something like "Yes, the reason he couldn't get himself a $200 Mustang is because he could only afford an $8,000 Honda. I agree."

Nothing wrong with modding Civics. You just want it to look like this:

A guy a couple streets over has a red one like this. It looks pretty good actually and I bet it is a blast to drive.

I do see a lot of really poorly done Civics, Integras, and Eclipses around here though. I always laugh at them and shake my head in disbelief that ANYONE thought it was a good idea to destroy their car the way the idiots driving those cars did.

If a sticker adds 10hp I wonder how much a fake R2D2 adds? 😀

That's not ricer, that's just a total virgin nerd. He doesn't think he's faster than you, he's just going to wait for you to pass so he can pretend to blow you off the road with laser cannons. :awe:

Although I would never rice out my personal cars, I like it when others rice out their cars. It provides entertainment value to me and power to them.

Ricing out cars = Bling on your body.

It's obviously about the attention but I think it's great.

There is a guy (I guess...blacked out windows) that I've seen drive by and park at a local book store several times. He has a late model Honda Accord coupe with transformer "signs" replacing the "H" Honda emblem. The car has new rims I believe, very tinted windows, and "NEERD" as the license plate. I think virgin every time I see it.

I don't have the money to race Ferraris, but you don't see me going out and buying a crappy Mondial with 90k miles and racing at my local track. Sometimes you're just making yourself look ridiculous.

If you cannot do something right, don't do it at all.

If it can get around the track safely, why not? Atleast they're taking it to the track.. something that 90% of Ferrari owners don't do I'd imagine.

Yeah, if they enjoy it, more power to them. Won't stop me from thinking they're delusional, but who cares, they're not hurting me.

What really bothers me is when someone who's obviously poor sinks what money they have into ricer shit and then begs for government handouts. It happens so often where you see people buy junk food with food stamps and then spend their cash on useless crap.

Not everyone is afraid to show their balls once in a while. Maybe ask your mother to lend you your's to try it out.

wow most of you guys in here are really elitist. if someone has a hankerin to mod their daily driver, no real big deal until it interferes with other peoples day (loud stereo/ exhaust). we put a 383 into a dodge aspen 4 door. just because we had both laying around. the car it came out of was a coronet 4 door, so we upgraded to a smaller frame is all. there was no real point to it, just like tossing a 327 into a chevy luv pick up. or a customized vega station wagon. some people just like to make their personal stuff... personalized, thats all. if they want gull wing doors on a civic, who are you to tell them they cant?

To me the unpainted body kits are the worst, just save up enough to get it painted before stapling it on or whatever.

Aftermarket bolt on supercharger... later 3.2/T model and now that "crappy" Mondial could push 350 HP. Keep in mind that the Mondial can be had for under $20k (came || that close to buying one in May for $13.5k).

played out or not, if it makes them happy whats the difference? your style is not everyones, and theirs is not yours. personally i think your bike is fugly, but thats just my opinion. im sure my bike makes no sense to you either, i took a cafe racer and turned it into a street cruiser. i just wanted to, thats all. for reference tho, i have a stock dodge truck. only mod is tinted windows. hell, i dont even have my amps/ subs installed.

Who cares what they do to their car. It doesn't hurt any one. They're just making themselves look bad.

That's what happens when daddy is too busy at work and buys his 12 yr old son whatever he wants to make up for it. JFC my 8 yr old nephew could do better with a 99 cent pack of melted crayons.

Sure, they can do whatever they want to their car. It is their right. But that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the matter. 😉

Why does everyone get all butt-hurt when we laugh at others for making their cars look ridiculous (in our opinion)?

It's not getting butt hurt, it's about wincing at the dude that just doesn't get it.

You can buy all the gear you want, but once you start beating on those in your same realm you are clearly in it for the attention not because you want to be.

We have dudes here that pick up every new hot car, have it in the shop half the year for the same 'cookie cutter' mods list and then sell it in another 6 months. They are at the tracks but never on the track.
