Aftermarket modifications to crappy cars - Why?

How often do you see like a 1992 Honda Civic hatch back with like a giant spoiler or with aftermarket body panels?

Why do people do this and bring more attention to their crappy cars? If I drove a crappy car, I would not want to draw attention to it in case someone I know sees me.

And why are the cars always only half finished? Come to think of it, I've NEVER seen a cheap car that appeared to have been "fully completed" or still not in it's state of misery. One of the panels is always unpainted or one of the tires is still a doughnut and the rest are 19 Yokohomas on racing rims.

Why not just save your money and buy a respectable car later?

Not everyone has a lot of money. If modding their half primer civic is what they want to do, more power to them.

I don't have the money to race Ferraris, but you don't see me going out and buying a crappy Mondial with 90k miles and racing at my local track. Sometimes you're just making yourself look ridiculous.

If you cannot do something right, don't do it at all.

Welcome to what we call rice and welcome to the free world where people can do what they want with their own property.

The Civic is cheap, lightweight, and modular. Its frame can withstand high speeds. It has a bunch of other stuff going for it as well, which makes it a great daily driver.

I've had this forum talk me out of modding my Civic so many times, I've lost count and given up.

Might as well not have a car at all if you can't have a Veyron right? Screw all that other slow worthless junk on the road, I'd rather walk.

On second thought, I'd rather be in a *real car* that I can actually afford and own that can still spank 99% of cars on the road rather than walk, ride the bus or drive my mom's minivan while beating off to the Veyron *poster* hanging over my bed while owning *neither* that Veyron or any of the other cars I put down on internet forums.

Get off your high horse.

What the hell does it matter to you if someone wants to personalize their crappy car? Who cares if you "go out and buy a crappy mondial." Knock yourself out kid, have a ball.

Nothing wrong with modding Civics. You just want it to look like this:

Please state when I said these people should stop doing what they're doing.

I'm questioning their taste and motives. This is an internet forum to discuss that. Not interested in engaging in discussion? Don't post.

That's an Accord. Failed. :D

I know, but it was hideous enough that I included it. Besides I didn't say it was a Civic, it's just an example of what not to make a Civic look like if you want it to look nice :)

But why are broke people spending money on such frivolous endeavors?

It would be much appreciated if you could provide us with some pictures of your modded Civic.

because I am tired of seeing some ugly ass, half primer, 3/4 body kit, giant spoiler, stickered, obnoxiously loud stereo, underpowered, hand tinted glass, fart pipe equipped POS that some jackass is revving the hell out of while clouds of smoke pour out of it.

Bingo. Modding your car how you want is one thing. Putting it out there in an obnoxious way or trying to bring attention to it is another. So if you're going to do that, be prepared to get negative attention as well. Just look at cardomain. All the ricers in there say, "RATE MY CAR!" You rate it low or say you don't think "x" mod is nice, cool, etc, and they get all butt hurt and start bringing out personal insults and profanity. It's stupid and hilarious. lol

If they are driving aggressively and actively *looking* for a fight, I like to call that opportunity. Can we say aircraft carriers by the top of second?

Kinda mean I admit, but I don't kid myself for one second that this same person wouldn't be ALL up in my shit if I was in my stock beater Camry. My Camry is slower than many average slow cars, so when one of those many average slow cars happens to be riced out, it just adds insult to injury when I'm in the Camry and they are playing their little games and won't get off me. For this, I won't hesitate to dismantle one of these little fvckers when I'm out in the Cobra.

Otherwise if they are just pudding along and minding their own business and trying to keep their farting on the down low, then to each their own; I just continue about my business and cry a little inside for their car. I don't care if it's a Ferrari or just a beater Civic, no car deserves that.
