Around 80% of the web developers at my work use Macs and it`s not a small company at all. Because of that I have to use Macs every day.

Cough***Ubuntu***cough... If you want pretty interface, and shits that don't cost an arm and a leg, and functional.

Funnily enough, I recently attended a ninja conferenceand of the entire room of people that ran PCs with some variant of *nix (even some Wins with *nix on Wins), there were two with Macs. They can't even find the shell to save their lives, yup, some fine "admins" they were. They did look pretty with the Macs though.

I could also add to that extremely poor integration with file system: not noticing new files in the directory, inconsistent support for adding folders and files (symlink vs creating a new folder).

Also, aside from Xcode there are quite a few things I don't like about MacOS in general, and they aren't of the 'different type', they are of the 'poorly thought out' type.

For example:
- no easy way to lock the laptop with a key shortcut (have to jump through hoops or use a hot corner with a mouse)
- language switch works on OS level rather than app level - very annoying
- inability to use just the functional keys for language switch (i.e. Ctrl + Shift) - you have to use a symbol/letter key on top
- no page up/page down and delete as standalone keys (hate to use my left hand for a simple finger op on the right hand)
- not 'cut and paste' file. If I have to use finder, give me a cut-and-paste, dammit, why do I need to copy-paste, then delete? WTF?

Many other mild annoyances, but not as drastic.
I do like that if I move my files and folders, Mac OS knows where it's moved. Make a shortcut to a folder/file, move that file, and the shortcut will still point to it. Move my project folders around, and everything will still open up in Xcode.

I, too, hate that there's no cut and paste. It's probably not there because of the people that cut stuff and forget to paste it.

Ubuntu, LMAO!

*nix for everyday use is for geeks and nerds. People that just want to use the computer as a tool, not like a tool, prefer an OS that gets out of your way.

If all you use a computer for as a tool to check email and surf the net and generally dicking around, then a BartPE CD would work fine too. I bet if I slap that on some shinny half bitten fruit logo hardware, I'll sell quite a lot of them.

What's wrong with Ubuntu? What, GUI not pretty enough for you?

if you're using ubuntu then you're doing it wrong...

"wins with *nix on wins"... what the fuck does that mean?

lastly, I seriously doubt the two mac users were unable to find the terminal...

Haha I have owned a MBP for a couple of months and your conclusions are 100% perfectly accurate. Love the hardware, love IOS for fucking around but if I wanna do work I launch Win7.

I love my MBA for mobile duty. It's light and has great battery life.

Not sure how it's relevant but I wanted to share to potentially stir up some mac haters.

VM's, you heard? (let me spell it out so I won't have to come back to this again, V is Virtual and M is Machine) And I might have exaggerated a bit when I said they couldn't find the terminal, but really, they had no clues to what they were doing.

Please, do tell me why Ubuntu is "wrong".

First week of using Mac my Google searches related to Apple were 'how do I work around this shit on Mac?'

I.e.: how do I play flac on iTunes?
Is there any other decent mp3 player aside from iTunes?
How do I lock it?
How can I do page up/down with cursor moving (answer is, you can't)

If you don't follow infinite wisdom of Steve Jobbs and use what he gave you, you must be wrong, and you go to hell!
