isekii - thank you for proving how dumb the average IE user is.
about:config is your friend.
extensions are your friend.
its not like any of us care if you use IE or FF. ignorance is bliss.

Firefox isn't without it's faults. Last night I was booking my cruise at carnival.com and the site was incredibly slow in FF, but I opened up IE and it worked just fine.
I was on the phone with my gf at the time, and she was looking at the site too on her Mac using FF, and she said it was barely working. I told her to try it in Safari and she said it worked fine with that.
Also I have problems with FF not closing all the way.. I always have to ctrl+alt+del close it.

That said, I still use it all the time. I can't give up my extensions!

3) eBay loads juuuuuuuust fine for me.

Thank you for posting how much of a fanboi you are.
firefox should be optimized from the get go.
i have a few extensions installed as I dont need the rest.
obviously you cared enough to post whether I used FF or IE.
I was merely posting my experience with it.

In all the time I used IE I never had any problems with spyware/ hijacks or anything else. It is a great browser.

I like having tabbed browsing though and don't like the way the variants like Maxthon are setup so I started using Firebird/ Firefox. I used it for ~2 years and then tried Opera.

I had actually tried Opera before but didn't really give it a chance. Used it for a few hours and decided I didn't like the annoying ad. A few months later I stumbled upon a key generator for Opera and tried it again sans ad. Now that the annoying ad is gone and I've spent a little time customizing it I actually get annoyed when I have to use IE or Firefox (even with all its great extensions).

I like Opera enough that I actually paid for it.

Of course they all do the same basic thing and all have their faults but for me at least Opera>*.

This is beyond hilarious. It's okay to be a computer geek/technical dude, but some people in here really need a chick.

People need to accept that neither is perfect. Personally, I don't like how FF loads pages, and I don't want to have to do tons of tweaks to get it to perform just as well as IE. IE gives me no problems, no spyware, adware, etc. I've given FF many chances but have always gone back to IE.

Nik,

>> Too bad you don't know what the hell you're doing so you can fix that little problem, huh

Go on then genius, you've dodged the issue so far, tell us all what you'd do to troubleshoot the apparent network timeouts on a single application?
Untick the 'long freeze' option in the preferences or quickly press Ctrl+A twice for the hidden 'autofix' feature?

I'd guess the application has a blocking thread responsible for opening sockets and decreasing the TCP retry timeouts in the registry would minimise the impact.
You were probably thinking along the same lines too right ?

There are bugs in software, always will be, just look at any big software company's online knowledge base for an idea of how many environment specific bugs there are in software that companies pay millions for in licenses and maintainence. I've battled software vendors for months tackling problems that aren't reproducible in a lab environment and work flawlessly on thousands of other machines, and i've written and supported corporate software myself so I know its the truth.

And seriously mate, by your standards I'd call troubleshooting FF freezes a bit more complicated than a 'little problem' if you have HELP! in your signature asking for help in an excel spreadsheet.

John.

Different strokes, I guess. For me, tabbed browsing is the biggest draw of FF, followed closely by extensions, my favorites being forecastfox and adblock. Lesser benefits are its lower succeptibility to ad/spy ware and other attacks, and the fact it's not tied into the OS. I haven't seen any slowness, and I use IE somewhat regularly to check for / install windows updates and to use trendmicro's free online av scan (doesn't work in FF), so I'd notice if there were any.

I'll stick with Maxthon for now. Firefox is great as long as you do the speed tweaks and don't install any extensions. Beyond that it goes downhill, where Maxthon is much faster rendering.

Too many issues with extensions causing conflicts and slowdowns...the idea to use a 3rd part extension for most options and customizations is suicide. Maxthon is a great balance with great performance.

I dunno, I've tried FF and Opera, but ultimately find no persuasive reason to keep them installed, rather than just using IE. To each his own I guess.
