3) No, I want my goddamn coffee - which probably explains my PMS. :p

its an internet browser, i shouldn't need to TWEAK it to make it faster...it should be fast outta the box.

I agree. However, consider the number of security updates IE needs just to function without the threat of it letting the internet completely fvck up your computer.

Not look at firefox. Updates? Hmm? What are those?

Like the two critical updates in the last month? :)

Exactly, in addition to that, my box hasn't been taken over yet, i have no spyware/adware, and i don't even remember the last time i installed an IE update...so wtf?

Format your hard drive. Install Windows. Enjoy the LOADS of updates. Oh, wait, MS bundled the DOZENS AND DOZENS AND DOZENS of critical updates to IE into service packs. Oh well. I guess because you don't see that a service update is patching some bigass hole, it must not ever happen, right?

Oh yea, Javascripts and Macromedia 7 seems to run with less bog down through I.E i.e Games.com than through FF

Try pressing the Esc key.

The only thing that fixes the problem is cntl-alt-del or waiting a few minutes.

I didn't even mention the fact that FF does not work with our internal Siebel web based database but considering its a proprietary application, I don't blame them.

If it WERE a firefox problem, the MILLIONS who apparently use it flawlessly every day must be blind or something, right?

Then explain to me why my computer does this?

Its an IBM Thinkpad T40 w/1Gig of RAM running Windows 2000 Pro with all the service updates.

Its my work PC so I don't touch it or tweak it. FF runs fine other than trying to access our Siebel database or when I type in an invalid web address.

sigh... hardware configurations tell you nothing. That's like looking at your Ferrarri and saying "sh|t, I don't know how to shift with a transmission that doesn't have syncros (spelling?). This MUST be a car problem."

You seem to know it all Nik which is why I am asking you the question. You are blaming it on user error when all I did was install it and expect it to run. It's not like I have some exotic setup.

I don't have an issue with FF. It's my default browser but it does exhibit this problem for me. You just can't seem to accept that though. You seem to think it is the perfect program when it probably is not.

Thats the way all Fanbois are....they refuse to admit faults...

I use IE exclusively because i've been trained to windows key+r + iexplore

I have had no issues whatsoever with it so why switch, but now all this talk about tweaking and whatever to make it work makes me NOT want to switch.

I'm far from fanboy. I just know how to fix problems instead of bitching about it and avoiding the real issue. Then again, working for an ISP for years taught me how to fix things like the DNS issue described above. That and common sense.

Its good you have that skill but my skills are elsewhere. I'm not bitching about it, I just accept it. I can't help but avoid it because I don't have the skillset to fix it. I don't see how common sense will help me fix a DNS problem when I don't know the first thing about DNS. And I'm also not about to bother my IT friends about something that minor.

Microsoft makes fantastic products. The weaker products are intuitive and user-friendly. The stronger products are less intuitive/user-friendly but powerful.

Problems are found more in MS products than other products because more people use MS products. I'm sure if MS didn't exist, we'd have loads more loopholes known for linux products.

I have WinXP Pro and Gentoo Linux on my desktop. They both have their strong points and weak points. That's why I use both. :)

isekii, did you make use of any ff extensions? Make use of tab browsing? What is it that you've done with ff? How fast is your computer? I've use it on a 150MHZ laptop before and it's fine.

I have adblock, gmail notifier and forecastfox. Thoses extension alone along with a stable browser make me stay.

What is there to do with FF ? it's an internet browser.
I browse the internet with it.... for the past couple of months
that's what I did with it.

The only thing I have installed is the google search extension on the corner.
How would the extensions make FF any faster.

Never found a use for FF other than to check web pages to make sure they render correctly for those that do use FF. IE + Crazy Browser is what I've been using for a couple of years now.

isekii, have you installed previous verions of the app before and are installing over it and noticing this, or is this a fresh install?

Mozilla has a nasty habit of leaving behind garbage. I've noticed this on lots of different user's boxen. If you completely uninstall, remove any profile directories it creates, etc, then try a fresh build, it seems to help out a lot.

Also, you might try a few things:

1) Run the app with the -p flag and create a new profile.
2) Lower the disk cache amount (it's something like 50000 ridiculous to start, to 500) in the general prefs menu
3) Enable multiple http requests (even though it breaks standards which you may/may not care about) from the about:config page

These are quick fixes, there are more detailed ones if you really care all that much.

I downloaded this like a few months ago.. probably a lil less. I only downloaded it once and made appropriate updates automatically.

Disk Cache was already set at 5000kb. which isn't much.

I love FF.
Except:
The spell check is a pita to get working.
Google toolbar doesn't work with it.

I see, try creating a new profile.. also 5MB is a lot when you consider it's writing to your HD 5MB worth of cache.
