so based on the posts in this thread, it seems that only 1 person has actually seen it, and he said it was decent.

anyone else see it?

Over at rottentomatoes the "viewers" gave it 83 percent positive before it was released, meaning they didn't actually see it. Since it actually opened its down to 54 percent. And considering how few people have seen it, the actual rating of those who saw it is probably like 30 percent liked it.

So, at least more than one person liked it.
Of course that could just be the Scientologist votes...

After Earth crashes at the box office =

The blame can't lie solely with the director, though, especially at a time when people seem to feel little affection for the Smith family. Between accusations of Hollywood nepotism, backlash against eyebrow-raising interviews and lingering suspicions about their involvement with Scientology, Will, Jaden and the rest of the gang seem to be in a bit of a public opinion rut.

I agree with this comment =
This has nothing to do with it.... The trailers made no sense, the story sounded weak and it seemed to just be a cheap ploy to get his son into another film. Maybe this will teach Hollywood that "Big Stars + Big Effects" doesn't always equal big bucks, you have to at least attempt to tell a good story.

I saw the trailers for this movie and my experience with the Karate Kid remake = bad movie/little Smith can't act... even with a nice concept for this movie.

Surprised its doing this bad. Premise seemed interesting enough to watch, and haven't seen anything in the trailers to think WTF director.

Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty directed by Elaine May how could it possibly be bad?

For me when I saw the trailers and previews, I thought AE had a John Carter type of production feel to it. That is to say a lot of money got dumped into special effects and the marketing failed to explain what the overall theme of the movie was about in their trailers.

I need to be hooked into it with at least some semblance of a story going on and with this all I got was Jadens character gets crash landed on an Earth that has been devastated and he tries to survive. That's not a very compelling story to put into a trailer to capture my interest in a summer when there are plenty of alternative eye candy movies to choose from.

Coupled with the fact that Shyamalandgdksag directed means he may have deliberately hid some of the details to coverup the twist which to be honest he does not have a good track record with anymore. This only served to damage the chance of me going to watch it TBH.

M. Night Shyamalan has made exactly one great movie and one OK movie; everything after Unbreakable has been unwatchable garbage. But his movies, at least prior to The Last Airbender, have always been box office successes, as surprising as that is. I haven't liked anything Will Smith has been in since I, Robot, which was damn near a decade ago, but he also has a tendency to make profitable films (by which I mean every single one of them save Bagger Vance has turned a profit). The studios see a collaboration like this as a way to print money. Hell, it doesn't even need Shyamalan, just Smith. But the previews make it look like Oblivion crossed with nepotism, and frankly, quite boring. I don't want to pay money to watch M Night Shyamalan direct the Smith clan's home movies, and I can't imagine why it would be appealing to anyone else. And, given the disastrous reviews and lower-than-expected box office, it isn't. But there are still thousands of people shelling out money for this, and I can't fathom the thinking behind that.

Will Smith is going to drag his legacy through the mud trying to carry his kids. His daughters awful song about whipping hair had his blessing. These movies with his son have sucked as well.

Saw it. It was OK for a matinee. Not as horrible as some people say, but Smith's son isn't that great of an actor.

The real Q is, how does shamalamadong still continue to find work if his movies are universally panned? He must still be bringing in money.

I saw it with my sons. We enjoyed it. Not a stellar movie, but nice effects and I would pay $6.00 to watch it at a matinee anytime.

-edit.. just looked up and saw Fritzo's response and I agree completely..
