I've heard this is actually a lie.
From stiching together different people's experiences (I'm a stick, so I don't have my own experience) and from a chemical engineering perspective, I'd have to say both of you are correct.

1) A fatter person has a much higher metabolism (plenty of studies show this, so stop with that silly myth than thin people have higher metabolisms). That means the fatter person is generating more heat energy. More heat + more insulation = hotter temperatures in their core and/or more cooling needed. Fat people sweat a lot more in an attempt to rid themselves of this heat.

2) A fatter person has much greater surface area exposed to the elements. This surface is covered in sweat to get rid of the core heat. Thus, fatty people can feel very cold very quickly as this large wet surface area hits cool temperatures (especially if the air is flowing).

Thus they could easilly feel colder at the same time they are actually warmer.

FIXED.

Water ~ 1 gm/cc.
Fat ~ 0.9 gm/cc.

Typical oils, fats, creams (which are fatty), etc all float on water.

Well... There is far less guilt after going to an all you can eat buffet and making a pig of yourself.

It's kinda hard to "blow a diet" that consists of eating anything and everything you want!

More stored energy to live off of if you ever get lost in the woods, stranded on a deserted island, kidnapped or some such.

You forget the your body is about 70% water and that the human body fat actually holds much more than just fat cells. It holds a lot of plasma and water. You take that into account and the fact that most people will never get over 40% body fat, where the other 60% is highly dense (bone, muscle...), and you have someone that will sink.

Listen! It's the sound of one hand clapping!

(Because you're too fat for your hands to actually reach each other.)

Do I even want to know? No, I think I definitely will not ask any questions about this.

I wasn't fixing all of your post. Just that one portion. The equal density state (including air in the lungs) is right around 40-45% body fat.

thats probably debatable. Because fat people use more energy to do things like walk, etc. So you'd have to figure out how much extra you'd need to weigh above normal to make that beneficial

I guess I should have been more succinct when I said Human Body Fat. I didn't know 40-45% body fat was bouyant? :Q.... I guess the more you know. But I can fill my lungs with air and partially float if I wade I am am 1/3 of that percentage.
