An armed group of people marching on DC would be like Caesar crossing the Rubicon with his army. Congress would go into a panic.
 
This is idiotic. They want to break the law, and seem ready to blame the government if it so chooses to enforce said law.

Just because something is legal or illegal does not make the law a just law.

At one time it was legal to own black slaves, at one time it was legal to kill native americans, up until the 1940s 1 state had a law that paid something like $20 for the head of every morman brought to the courthouse.

Anyone want to put odds on how many leg wounds there will be from accidental discharges? I admire the sentiment... but think this is a dumb idea.
 
Fear tends to progressively gnaw at people. When someone experiences anxiety at the thought of a possible negative outcome sometimes intentional actions are taken to hasten this possible outcome. This occurs because overtime the building anxiety of the possible negative outcome eclipses the outcome itself.

These people fear that their guns may be forcibly taken from them at some point in the future. The anxiety is so heavy in their minds that it causes distress greater than it actually occurring.

By engaging in an illegal provocation they will get one of two outcomes. Their guns will be taken away removing the anxiety or nothing will happen lessening the anxiety for at least a time.

I didn't say anything about whether the law is just or not. I'm referring to the fact they are spoiling for a fight. Walking around with a loaded gun probably isn't the most clean way of claiming for peaceful protest (not taking a side on whether there is merit to this or not).
 
If Texas ever turned blue and amended their constitution to ban firearms would that be constitutional and legal to do?
 
Good god is this a bad idea. It really puts the police in an impossible position (which I guess is the point). I don't think the police can just let these people walk with loaded rifles - that is a felony in DC - and arresting them may be really dangerous. If just one of the marchers points a gun at an officer, which seems fairly likely, it could easily turn into a bloodbath.

I can't help but wonder what the response would be, both sides, were one of these people who take things to extremes decide to show up at something like the Boston marathon or similar event in the future with their AR-15 slung over their shoulders just to show they aren't dangerous.

I get their point. This is not how you make it.

Nice post.

We always create what we fear. Fear is the suppression of emotion which causes a state of incomprehension, an agitation with no known cause that causes thought to run wild with crazy associations, there are monsters after our guns. These monsters must be silenced by threat, and that is supplied by the gun. Paranoia is just an unpleasant way of jacking off.

These folk live in such a deep state of repressed emotion they have a death wish. They are desperate to escape their pain. They are filled with nightmares that only a gun can prevent. They will die to save their only protection. If the government wants to reduce gun clinging, we need to offer therapy, sympathy, and understanding. It's fear that makes us irrational. And the imbecility of fear is that everything we fear has already happened.
