how's it look? I don't know much about LCDs. Maybe I ought to scoot over to my local 'center and pick one up.

I have a nice 20" 2048x1536 CRT for games; maybe this lcd would be just the thing for internet cruising, photo-shopping and the like.

It really stands out from any other monitors because of size. It is HUGE!
I saw it right away as soon as I enter this section. I saw price after that...
Image quality was pretty good.
I think I will get one tomorrow. I was thinking about 20"WS, but for little more I can ge much more room

And not dealing with dead pixels from NEWEGG is another benefit, as well as worry while monitor shipped in open original box.

It's like screaming:
"it is me, 20" flat panel, steal me now!"

Paying local tax is draw back...

Related costco thread

But it is not available at costco.com anymore

Very good price for a 22" w/s lcd. I'm tempting for a second dual view...Wonder it's available everywhere where MC b&m operates. I'm in dfw area, btw.

I am not sure if you can check online, but you can call them. I saw it at local MC in Cleveland

their reseller ratings are terrible

Sure it is because they are huge computer department store with overpriced stuff.
They are not online store like newegg.
They are B&M mostly.
But because they are within 2 miles from me I visit them quite frequently.
I usually find there product that I can hold in my hands before I buy it some place online.

And sometimes you can find a decent deal like this...

And they are good for emergency, if you need a computer part NOW.

16.2 million colors though, 6 bit panel vs full 8 bit - makes a difference in movies, i went from a samsung 710t which was also a 6 bit panel to a 2005fpw and movie just look better aside from being bigger

Just wondering where 16.2 coming from?
with 8 bit panel it will be (2^8)*(2^8)*(2^8)=16777216 ->16.7 mil

how about 6 bit math - It is not giving me 16.2?

I concur. Besides MC's sale people are way techically better than another b&m stores such as Fry's. At certain right time I find their prices are way cheaper too.

6 bit gives 64 possible colors
8 bit gives 128

By mixing colors (through dithering and/or FRC) 6 bit panels can create 3 virtual colors between every 2 adjacent colors

64 + 3 * 63 = 253 real and virtual colors

253^3 = 16194277

16.2 million

Pixel Pitch 0.282mm =that is gross!

really sub-par monitor, despite its size.

come on, my 15.4" laptop has that resolution.

Pixel pitch 0.28-0.29 is pretty much standard for all 19" 4:3 ratio monitors.
This 22" has about the same image height as 19" 4:3 monitor, just much wider, so pixel size should not be an issue.
But 6 bit color depth with "virtual colors" make me unconfortable at least for now.

19" LCDs are 5:4 not 4:3. 4:3 monitors are much more versatile
Thanks for correction.
But ratio was not my point.
I was trying to say that pixel size is the same as on 19" non-widescreen that has about the same image height.

And my point is that 20.1" have that same resolution, and better pixel size. Some people like big letters regardless of precision though.

I'm glad you posted this deal because I was looking for a bigger LCD monitor (with widescreen) to replace my dual 17" LCD's. I picked one up B&M at their Tustin location. Excellent screen I must say. I might have to get another one. :)

I ordered one online since their closest location is in Cambridge,MA. I'm also thinking of wall mounting mine since Acer's stand is pretty meh anyhow. I'm not too worried about the panel being 6 bit, or having larger pixel size since it's mainly going to be used for general tasks like MS Office, browsing, etc.

All the really important stuff I'll keep using my 22" NEC FP2141 CRT...one of the best CRT's ever made IMO.

We will make sure to check what you think from now on since you are obviously the final word on what LCD's are good and which aren't...

This one does not say HDTV ready or anything., the sceptre one I saw somewhere said 1080i/p 720 480 HDTV compatibiliy. Can someone elaborate on whether this works or not via DVI as HDTV? or what are the requirements for such functionality as some manufactureres say HDTV ready, but dont specify 480 720 or 1080, whats the diference and how do you tell.

It seems alot of posters in this thread dont know much about LCD's. I dont know much either but here is some info.

20" LCD's has a res of 1680x1050. Any lcd larger than this except 24"+ will have a larger pixel pitch. When i'm purchasing monitors I buy them for the resolution moreso than the amount of inches.

You wont find any kind of "HDTV" terminology on these LCD's, only on LCD TV. If it doesnt mention the HD resolutions or anything about HDCP, then most likely you cant view HD content on it. If you are looking for 1080 HD resolution you're gonna have to look at LCD's that are 24" and beyond, or you are going to have to downscale on smaller lcds.

Now with the colors this monitor is a 6bit becuase of the 16.2mill color spec, its also a TN panel because of its fast response time. TN panels are the lowest budget type of panel you can get, but by no means are terrible monitors. This LCD should be good for gaming, but thats about it. NOt really good for movies or graphic work.

ONe last thing, if a monitor says 16.7mill colors this does NOT mean its true 8-bit.

Would the 20'' LG be a "better" monitor because of its 8bit capabilities - the 204TW? I think is the name of it? Considering one or the other.

I think that LG monitor is pretty decent. I'm not sure if its true 8bit though.

If you're looking for a 20" lcd on a budget I would consider the samsung 205bw.
