Just got my Acer 22" today, and for a supposedly crappy 6bit TN panel, it looks pretty damn nice to me. Also, no dead pixels, and mine has a build date of August '06.

Now, to figure out a wall mount scheme....

:)

I'm sure its a nice monitor, but for people that need a monitor for more than just for surfing and playing games may want something better.

I don't disagree. I just think people get so wrapped up in specs, and make the differences out to be so dramatic. After a few weeks of reading about this LCD, I was led to believe it was terrible crap that you had to keep within 1 degree of the proper viewing angle, the colors would be horrible and washed out, and the larger pixel size would be "gross" as one person put it.

I'm sure there are better panels out there...but at a considerable jump in cost that for some people, is just not worth it.

Anyway, as I said before, I have one of the best CRT's ever made sitting right next to it that still blows away even the top LCD's in most things other than text...

For someone looking for the best "bang for the buck" in the 20" + WS LCD market....I'd say the Acer is hard to beat...

Oh, and no one likes a know it all...;)

Nice post. A lot of people do get hung up about TN panels. I use a Samsung PVA LCD at work all day, and have a TN panel at home. There really isn't much difference. I've had them side by side. Viewing angles are never an issue either. I would like an IPS panel, but they just aren't worth the extra cost, IMO.

I picked up one last night, played around with it for a few hours, played Flatout 2, WoW, and Guild Wars on it, didn't see any ghosting, and the image quality is great IMO. I'm very happy! Now I'm going to sell the 2 19" Dell LCDs I had on my desk before to cut the costs. Thanks op!

I bought this LCD yesterday for my girlfriend at the micocenter in Tustin/Irvine. With tax every came out to be $363 which is not too bad. I gotta say that the image quality was quite good, but it has some light leak from the top of the screen when the screen is black. Does anybody else have this light leak problem or is it just the one that I got? But besides the light leaking, no ghosting whatsoever. Great deal on a good monitor! THanks

It's nice. 8-bit. Same resolution. On sale at circuit city right now for 309.

I never said that TN are bad panels. Simply stated what they are good for and what they aren't. All the information is off the LCD user guide. Sorry if I gave anyone else any other impression.

If you're on a budget then a TN would suit you fine. I was also on a budget and i bought a P-MVA panel (viewsonic vx2025)

For 20" wise, the best bang for your buck is the samsung 205bw for $280.

Aren't most of the Samsung's TN as well? I know when I looked some Samsungs in that range most were TN's...

IMHO it is kind of pointless discussion what is better Brand "A" 22-inch or brand "B" 20 inch

You have to compare apples to apples.

You can buy Chevy for $15K and Lexus of the same size for $50K+ - it just a matter of personal preference and available money.

Can you buy better smaller monitor? - yes, for about the same price.
Can you buy better monitor of the same size? - yes for much more money.

I agree. :)

I'd just like to add that the more I use this monitor the better I like it. It definately needs a bit of an adjustment OOTB, but if you have some patience and take the time to adjust it, it looks even better.

Also, Far Cry on it is nice...I'll have to fire up some Q4 or FEAR...

LOL, I never said the samsung wasnt a TN panel. All i said that its a great monitor for its price range. Meaning its an excellent TN panel, which happens to also be 8bit.

Ugh, this is so tempting. I was at a LAN party the other day, and I realized that I was the only one still using a CRT. Lugging a 40lb monitor around isn't fun. I'm jut worried that I'll be disappointed in the colors because it's 6bit.

Anyone know if Microcenter will charge back $30 to my CC if I go to the store and show them the receipt where I just bought this on Friday?
