According to torrentfreak, CD projekt is going to go RIAA on pirates

To avoid litigation letters if you live in a country where companies can get ip addresses converted into names and real addresses:

1-use a wired connection or a secured wireless.
2-Don't use torrents for your pirating needs.

I don't begrudge a company from using whatever legal means are available to maximize revenue. If there is a problem in this scenario, it has to do with the law and the lawmakers, not cdprojekt.

That's true that the lawmakers are the problem, but CD projekt shouldn't abuse the system like this. They seem to support IP and according to the link in my original post, they're strongly using the legal system to go after people so I'm not so sure I can support them or recommend them.

CDP created an awesome game, supported it beyond what any other publisher has done in the past couple years, and sold it without an DRM at all through the online delivery system. If people pirated it after this, then the hammer should come down on them.

If the company that made the game wants to track and sue those who stole it, more power to them. I see no problem with this at all. This is good for those who purchase the game and don't have to deal with DRM, and for the company as they will get a little money back. I wonder how much they will actually make off the torrentors after the dust settles...

I don't see a problem with CD Projekt going after people. They make an effort to be very anti-DRM, that does NOT mean they are pro-piracy. By most warezer's own words there is absolutely no reason to pirate a CD Projekt game. So bring down the hammer.

Edit: Damn Bat, same phrase even, lol!

It seems really excessive the amount of money they are trying to get from people that pirate, but you pirate, you take your chances I guess.

The bigger problem is people the people that are being accused that did not actually pirate, although I would think most of the people they are accusing are acutally guilty. I also wonder how much it is costing to pursue the pirates and if they are actually making a profit on it after all the costs. For sure, they are going to lose a lot of good will.

This shakedown will be the reason to pirate the game. There are always reasons to pirate. And there is always the "I wouldnt have bought it anyways" reason.

Uhm, the reasoning given for pirating a lot of games is because of DRM. So CD Projekt bent over backwards and made their games have absolutely 0 DRM. That is what I was referencing.

Certainly, some people will always steal, and I honestly don't think those folks give a shit about this event any more than any previous event.

So you are against a company going after people who steal its product, wow.

The game was released with hardly any DRM, and after 2 weeks the little DRM that was in the game was patched out. They have continued to support the game with free content as well. Yet you get angry when they go after the people stealing from them? What do you do for a living so I can take advantage of you.

People pirate because they dont want to pay. They may say DRM, or this or that, but its because they dont want to pay. Otherwise, they would buy the game and just use a crack.

Agreed.

It's a good thing if they manage to find the pirates and make them pay if possible. The only problem (it is sometimes) is when companies suing pirates (or whoever did something wrong worthy of being sued) are asking for ridiculous amounts of money that no generic Mr. Pirate Joe has nor could ever get even after ten years of full-time work revenue. At least it seems that CDP specifically aren't asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars but something more "affordable" in the line of $1200 or so. Seriously though, when some companies sue people for hundreds of thousands of dollars how the heck do they manage to even see 1/100th of that amount?

There's never a reason to steal. There are excuses, but not rational reasons.
