no, the people who don't get their shit out are the dicks. i don't understand your argument, if someone puts them on a clean surface there's nothing really to complain about. 50% of the people in the dorms would do their laundry then forget about it for HOURS. yeah, let's just wait around for them to remember to come get their shit before we can do our laundry.

People started stealing clothes at my dorm when they were at the dryer for too long.

forgot this is ATOT where everyone is perfect, MY BAD!!!

Yep, you can't argue with all of the insensitive pricks here. Too bad, the guy didn't shove the OP into the washer.

then expect it to be stolen or damaged.

I do. I mentally resign myself to believing that when I leave my laundry, it's the last time I'll see it undamaged. Then it's like a pleasant surprise every time I come back and it's fine!

In college I lived in apartments for two years and both had shared laundry. Though thinking about it now, there usually was hardly anyone doing laundry. Only rarely would there be clothes sitting in finished machines. I would come back in 10 minutes and if they weren't out, I'd put them on top the machine or on a table.

I'd never throw them on the floor and I would wait a few minutes because really who can there at exactly the right time? Oh no, I might have had to go back upstairs and come down in a few, wasting all of 1-2 minute.

how can you possibly know it will ONLY be 5 minutes? If you put laundry in the washer, be there to take it out when it's done.

It's called courtesy. You walk in, no machines are open, you wait five minutes as a courtesy. If no one shows, then remove their clothes and move on. How will you know it will only take 5 minutes? You don't. You are waiting a reasonable amount of time relative to your needs. If you're not capable of giving a 5 minute courtesy you shouldn't live around other people. Move into the woods and never show your face again.

Haven't lived in an apartment in years, but if I did again, I would print up a few official looking signs that say something like, "The policy of this laundry room is Move your stuff out of the machine within 5 minutes of finishing. Otherwise other users WILL move it for you! Thank you. -The Management." Then when the asshole confronts you, you point to the sign. Oh, and then you kick him in the balls, too.

I dozed off one day when my clothes were in the dryer and when I came back about 20 minutes after they were done one of the girls folding them for me because she wanted to use the dryer.

That's beautiful. Too bad you didn't walk in while she was folding, you could've met your future wife.

If you're not going to be there when a Load finishes, expect someone to have removed it. Or, if you don't want other people touching your clothes, be there when the Load finishes.

This, except I wait a few minutes for the person to come back and empty it themselves.

Well I even waited 5-10 minutes and his stuff is just sitting there preventing me from getting on with my laundry. In the middle of him carrying on I interrupted him and said I should be mad at him, that I had to unload his clothes for him and had to touch his underwear. Next time get your laundry out so others don't get disgusted.

You gave the guy a chance to empty the washing machine himself and you could have been waiting for hours. You did the right thing.

Yea, not seeing what the big deal was. This was SOP in college. That's exactly why I live in an apartment with a washer dryer. I can do my laundry at my own pace and not worry about holding anyone up or not being there PRECISELY when the cycle ends.

If he didn't want someone handling his clothes, then he should be there when it finish. Otherwise expecting someone to wait until he removes his stuff means he think his time is more valuable than others. Reminds me how I hate doing laundry in college.

To drive the point home...I woke up and went to check the mail...passing the laundry room as I go to the mailbox. The asshole's clothes that I moved are STILLLLLL on the laundry table. He has not come back in from what I can tell, approaching 12 hours. Which one of you is going to wait 12 hours for a washing machine and dryer?

I pissed off the guy in my OP twice. Since I moved his clothes from the washer, naturally my washing load finished while his were in the dryer, because he put them to dry so late. So when I see the dryer finish drying, again I remove his clothes and put them on the table. He comes in to see his clothes again on a table and just glares at me while I'm loading into his dryer. What an ass...

No, if that happens, you notice which machine has the clothes done and come back in 30 minutes. If the clothes are still in, then you remove. For all you know, the machine finished it's cycle 1 minute before you got there. I'd be pissed at you to.

I live in an apartment complex...and all the units share a laundry room. I bring my laundry to the washing machines and notice they are all full. One of the washers indicated that it had finished its cycle. So I opened it, and started taking out somebody's cleaned clothes and put them on a laundry table.

This guy who apparently lives there enters the room, sees his clothes on the table and me loading into the same washer and blows a gasket. I mean really pissed off that I touched his clothes. I told him "well buddy u cant let your cleaned clothes sit in the washers we all have to share. They have a timer on them so you knew when they would be done." I've never seen someone so pissed off over something so minor. Just get your clothes out of the washer on time and nobody will touch your precious items. Lol...
Sounds like the neighbor overreacted although I understand his dismay.
I would not want some random person removing my laundry like that. You put them on the laundry table? No thank you.

Taking out somebody's clothes out of the machine is perfectly fine.

I do it and everybody in my apt. complex does it without any bad attitude. Pure harmony at my place.

That guy was a douche for getting upset about that. When a load is done and somebody is waiting for it, it's normal protocol to take it out.

That's what I'm talking about

I always used to just leave my basket on top of the machine, that way if I forgot about it people could just dump it in my basket instead. I'd prefer no one touched my stuff, but that just isn't reasonable when dealing with shared machines like that.

You would catch a beating at best in my neighborhood. If the machines are full. Its best to move on to the next laundrymatt.

Haha, she was in the middle of folding them when I walked in. Fobby asian girl though, not exactly my cup of tea, her english was pretty bad. I did thank her though for the courtesy.
