Hi hkmtim, My CPU is E6300 L627, 1GB Supertalent DDRII 800 Ram. And I think the most important thing is I am using IDE harddisk but not SATA.

hi, you can stable at 370, did you add voltage at any items (eg. DIMM, FSB, MCH, CPU etc)?
thanks again

No, all normal voltage, my CPU can even decrease voltage at 370. hkmtim are you using SATA harddisk ? if no then I think it is relate to your ram, what kind of ram are you using ?

at 370, is the on-board vga still working properly? and did you add fan on NB or SB?

Yes I am using onboard VGA and without SB/NB fan, even my CPU is using stock heatsink. At 370 still very stable, at 380 still can boot in windows but become unstable, at 390 still can post but can't boot windows, at 400 can't even post.

Anyway Gary said the beta bios should fixed the SATA problem, so you just have to wait awhile.

BTW anyone tried to plugin a PCI-E display insteal of using the onboard one ?

SATA:

Max capable FSB is 350 due to the Intel hardware limitations. Gigabyte hit 350FSB with an older SATA drive, anything higher and the board will not post at all. I had originally posted at 368 and 385 with the F2 beta that was on the board when I received it, turns out these were quirks due to internal timings in this bios and are not stable at all.

My max ( 8hour Dual Prime stable) is 337FSB on this board with on-board video, 334FSB with PCI-E (7950GX2). I have other SATA drives and video cards to test now.

IDE:

I just booted at 365, do not know if it is stable or not. I am on the phone with Gigabyte now but it appears that max capable FSB (based upon timings) using the IDE port will be 400.

More later....

I ordered one of these boards without knowing about this issue...

So in other words there is no way we can ever surpass 400 FSB because of this being a hardware limitation?

This seriously sucks...

So whats the highest clockspeed we can reach with FSB 334 you have reached in your case?

What do u mean by this... will we eventually be able to reach 400 FSB with a IDE HDD?
Im so pissed off i got this board right now... Im not even gonna use the pos integrated video...

Well I was going to go for the "G" for the added value, but it appears the regular DS3 or S3 is the way to go for 400++ fsb.. :(

Great Info hopfuly this situation will mature..

Wonder how long it will take to get the C2 version of this board, and what that may change...

No, that is MAX capable in the bios, real system levels based upon varying components will be in the 365~375 range. Do not get mad at the board or Gigabyte, this is an Intel issue.

All G965 boards are C2 level, C2 revision is not the wonder chip everyone thinks it will be. You will find out on Wednesday. ;)

Thanks for the info Gary, I ended up sending my G965 back to newegg for a P965 DS3.
When is the P965 C2 revision being released? So it's not worth it to wait for C2?

Hi Gary, you said you can reach 334 with SATA and 7950GX2, and 365 with IDE(actually I think you can go for 370). But how about IDE with 7950GX2 ?

I could not get a stable system over 367FSB, IDE (300GB Maxtor10), 7950GX2.

I decided to change my mind about keeping the 965G and will be returning it. I'm extremely glad that I purchased it from Newegg. I spoke with the CS rep today, explained to him that the motherboard I really wanted was the 965P even though the one I got was a fully functional mb. The CS was cool with it, told me to just place a new order, gave me an RMA#, and even waived the 15% restocking fee.

Wow, this is truly annoying to me. It dashes both my current build (file server/compute server for x.264 encoding) and my planned build (matx 965G in a Silverstone TJ-08) since all matx boards will have this same idiotic problem. Oh well, back to atx I guess.

Can someone send me the latest beta bios for the 965G-DS3? I'm at jvrobert@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Jason
