I'll give you a hint about this show:

it isn't about the island and all the crazy shit.
it's about people. there is a reason the show is first and foremost a drama. the crazy is just to add a plot.
when you watch the show for the people, everything changes. It becomes one of the finest television shows to ever been created, because the characters are so damn detailed. There's a lot more to the show than "crazy shit happens!", anyone who actually cares can see the characters are written with philosophy, psychology, religion, and all the social theories in-between serving as what drives them.

It's why I loved the recent Battlestar Galactica series. Politics and social behavior are the driving thoughts behind the characters.

You can of course ignore all that and just enjoy what is happening on the show, but it's very hard to ignore, or even be ignorant, of such concepts on Lost when half the characters are named after very important theorists and most of those theories are drawn upon for behavior quite often. The writers are nearly genius for that alone.
Then again, I am insanely interested in social and individual behavior theories, so this show gets to entertain me on multiple fronts.

2. John Locke advocated the separation of church and state, and that human nature was governed by logic. Our Locke thinks faith rules all.
3. Rousseau believed that man in his natural state was moral and good. Our Rousseau was a nutcase who ran around trapping and killing people.

Ah that's what I figured was being hinted at, but wasn't sure.

A lot of the individual names and the theories attached to the names aren't directly shown by those people, rather... it seems the theories are serving as discussion points. Also, some of the conceptual ideas of the real namesakes are pointed to as a focus, however not necessarily by any particular person.

Shephard, on the island, seems to live up to the ideas of John Locke.
But most interesting, in season 6's side-jumps, you see a version of John Locke that really seems to showcase the logic side of life.

Kate reveals she came back to island for lesbian sex with Claire. Bernard realizes Rose is black. Hurley admits that he ate most of the people who disappeard on the island. Sawyer admits he never wears a shirt because they "chafe'. Ben admits he is evil because no one really likes him.

The problem is that the characters have not been consistent, with jack being the biggest wishy washy character. The characters do not stay true. They are abused at the whim of the ridiculously poor plot.

BSG was the 2nd best show of the last 2 decades.

Nah, she's a real "movie star" now. Too good to show up on a lowly tv show.
Though I hear Boone will appear some more.
Also, Libby is supposed to make an appearence. Hopefully, they will clear up the Libby mysteries since they were real wtf moments, then they just killed her off.

thats the best way to watch any TV show. first season will hook you, your faith will be tested in season 2 and 3, then hopefully it all is worth it. good luck avoiding series spoilers by the end of this season tho..

The show has extremely poor writing and it goes plotless from season 3+. They pretty much spend half of each episode walking through forests after that. They take a thin plot and extend it within an inch of its life.

They follow a formula post season 3 of big reveal that turns into nothing... try to waste time through the episode, give another big reveal cliffhanger. The show has absolutely no direction.

People just really don't know what a good show is anymore.. the fact that people think Lost is quality is unbelievable.
