Shotguns in games have too limited a range, completely unrealistic. The spread pattern at ten feet in games is larger than what a real shotgun's would be at 50 feet.

Loved the shotgun in Doom 3. It was easily my most effective weapon and I played through most of the game with it. Strafe in close, fire off 2 rounds, that would pretty much drop most enemies.

Just came across this little article - 6 Best Shotguns in Videogames. Reminded me all about the Combat Shotgun from Half Life. Great for blowing those Vortigaunts away!

This thread needs more Marathon 2: Durandal. Dual-wielding double-barreled shotguns FTW!

The pumping action of a shotgun is used to eject the spent shell and load a new one from the magazine. However, most double-barrel shotguns hold exactly one shell per barrel and have no magazine, so there's no reason to have a pump action. To eject the spent shell and load a new one, you just break the thing open, drop out the spent shells, and insert two new ones. In order to get a double-barrel pump action shotgun, you'd have to figure out a way to have the two barrels fed from either a single magazine (no easy task) or to have two separate magazines with a single pump action that operates both of them. Or I guess you could have two separate pumps as well, but then you're basically talking about two pump shotguns duct-taped together.
One cool thing though is it's possible to have a FOUR-barrel shotgun! Not really any different from a double-barrel version, just twice as many barrels.

I was thinking on two pump shotguns attach to each other... but one handle moves both pumps lol! like mod
