AAGH, I got an 89.99% in English and she wont round it up!

Edit: or go to the library and read about Building Maintenance 😛

Stop being such pricks. If the teacher wont round up she has the problem. And what's with calling him a loser perfectionist. I'm getting almost straight As (except for English because I don't do half the homework and my teacher is an idiot) and I haven't studied for one test this year.

I would be pretty pissed too. You obviously tried in the class to get that grade. Unless you skipped class or pissed her off, she is just being an ass.

As long as you did your best, your dad will eventually understand. And if he doesn't then he does not have that open of a mind to realize that you are already a good student as is.

And as for your so called horrible grades, many will like to bring home a report card as good as yours. Be fortunate to have it.

Lastly, if the grading scale says 90-100 is an A, it means 90-100 is an A not an 89.99-100 is an A. Some teachers are willing to round up but some take it literally and the scale is in stone.

<< Judging from the thread heading you do NOT deserve a 90 >>

why are you judging me?? thats not right and it hurts my feelings

ROTFL! Thanks for the kicks. Where's Red Dawn?

those are my thoughts as well

It won't solve anything but at least you'll feel better😛

hahaha--made me spit on my monitor

That teacher is heartless. Period.

make no mistake, there's a big difference between an A and a B.

I say you try everything in your power to change her mind. Have your parents talk to her, talk to your counselor first and then have him/her talk to your teacher, or have your other teaches try to talk to her (some teachers have a bigger clout than others). Talk to the principal. If none of that helps, go to the school board meeting and tell the superintendant, that'll sure get her attention.

Good luck.

Don't worry too much about it. Just make the best argument you can and if that doesn't work just make sure you get a 90% next time.

a B+ isn't as good as an A, but it is far from a poor grade. There's a high schooler on this board who would probably be thrilled to have your grades... 😛

I'm glad I've been out of HS for several years now.

Guys, give the kid a break.😱 While I know some of your weren't smart enough to get high marks like he did(which is possibly why you're trolling in AT OT?😉), and some of you don't like "whinners", he none the less has a valid complaint. I myself worked very hard in school to attain a 4.0 GPA, and getting that ment a lot to me. If I was in the same situation, I too would probably be asking the same question in the same place. When you're working for an A, getting a B says "slightly better than average", while the A says "top of the class". Some people shoot for the center(C's), some people shoot higher(A's); don't knock someone just because they're shooting higher.😱

Wow, I've never had a teacher not round up on something that close, even in high school. Today one of my profs even told us that the 5% "Class Participation" grade on his syllabus has nothing with class participation. He said it was a "fudge factor" so that say you got an 89%, and he liked the work you did in the class, he'd give you a good "Class participation" grade, just to bump you over 90% for an A. Of couse, if you were an ass, you wouldn't get it. At least guy is honest, he's probably not the only prof that does it.

I've taught and graded over 100 students in a mixed undergraduate and graduate lab. I would never EVER pull this crap on a student. The only thing this would show is my anal nature and my inflexible thinking as a human being. Other factors notwithstanding, the significant digit argument was given and is valid. You deserve 90%, period.

I think I agree with everyone here. If all he got was an 89.99 then he doesn't deserve a 90. Especially since the teacher clearly specified that an 89 with two digits is a B+. Furthermore since he has only spent a whole semester in the class, he should chalk it up to experience and not spend the 5 minutes it takes to talk to a teacher. Besides, it is just a B+ I mean come on, people who get B+'s are definately going to fail in life because my brother's friend's cousin dropped out of highschool and he became a millionaire. Seriously stop complaining about your grades and learn to succeed in life by getting straight D's like me. What a jerk.

If you don't get an A in High School English class you are destined to be a fry frier at McDonalds. No, not McDonalds, White Castle, home of the DEATH BURGER. You might as well stop even trying now, just drop out of school and practice dipping those fries in just the right way. Because you know if you do it to quick they are soft on the inside but if you do it too slow they get black and crunchy.

"Ahhh, woe is me!"

I'm surprised how many people are taking the STFU stance on this one.
The grades on english papers are incredibly subjective depending on your english teacher, and some of them don't seem to fully understand the grading scales at all. For example, I once had one who gave us an extra credit assignment, but if you did the math, the number of points it was worth could not possibly influence the final grade one way or the other.
I tried to explain it to him, but he didn't understand, he just totally didn't get it.
I don't see how there could possibly be a reasonable difference between the quality of work performed to receive a grade of 89.99 vs. the quality of work performed to receive a grade of 90%.

<< Wow you're worthless... if you get any grade lower than an A+ you should pretty much end your life. You'll never make in the world with B's! What the hell is wrong with you. You father was right...time to pack your sh¡t and become a janitor. >>

Man that's cold. Brrrrrr

<< just ask her nicely and say you want to do some extra credit for your grade.. >>

d33pt: are you still trying to help the guy out?
LOL

<< hit her in the face with your dick

<< Aelus, in the US, 60% is considered failing in *MOST* classes and you have to repeat the course. Please do not compare a European grading scale with an American grading scale. >>

good to know 🙂
