What is wrong with voting for this?
Murtha offered a resolution that would force the president to withdraw the nearly 160,000 troops in Iraq "at the earliest practicable date." It would establish a quick-reaction force and a nearby presence of Marines in the region.

But the Republicans want a vote on this:
"It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately."

Two COMPLETELY different things. In fact the first one is what BUSH himself says he is doing in getting our troops out as soon as "practicable". Would Bush ever say he is going to keep the troops there past when their needed? No.

Damn, if they were doing their jobs and we had debate like this the whole time do you all think we would have been in this war in the first place?

Yeah lets pull out and declare total defeat and admit defeat to the Islamists everywhere. I'm sure many would like to see that.

Incredible.. first it's Florida with a problem... now it's Ohio.. and after Hillary loses in '08, which state will have the corrupt election process then?

Murtha wants out, so GOP's giving him his vote. What's so wrong with that? It's no different than the "stunt" the Dems pulled a few weeks ago w/ the closed session crap... so lame.

Ok but the commies were losing and have lost totally. The Islamists are only starting their rampage and we have not even begun to see their total power yet. The Islamists of today are not comparable to any groupt in history because the movement of today is well trained, hardened, brainwashed, and willing to die to spread their idea. It is also very vast. The commies that you mentioned never attacked us, never killed 3,000 of our people.

Communism is a political ideology and does not kill anybody, or at least when practiced in a certain way. Radical Islamism is completely different. The Soviets had nukes, they had equal military power back in the day, yet they were never crazy or courageous enough to use any of that. These Islamists are not crazy, but they are willing to die and willing to die to the last man.

As many times as it takes... to ensure that the Military/Industrial complex never hurts for funding.

Exactly, war corporatism at it's fearmongering finest.

You have already and conveniently forgotten how Wolfowitz derided General Shinseki for his estimate of troops needed in Iraq. The number of troops according to Wolfowitz was supposed to be a mere fraction of today's strength.

What do we do? Endure an endless war? There will never be the troops that Shinseki suggested. There are over five times the number of soldiers that Wolfowitz projected by now. The insurgency isn't showing signs of "last throes" and there isn't any solution coming from the circle of jerks that created this mess.

This whole thing is such an obvious gambit by the Republicans. One way to counter it would be for every Democrat to abstain from voting on the measure.

You mean it would be a way for them to hide how they feel from the public. Wouldn't be a bad idea considering the elections next year. :D

Murtha is giving an emotionally charged speech on the House floor... great stuff and I think everyone on all sides need to hear his views. Tune into C-Span.

DO NOT attempt to put words in my mouth, asshat! :|

In case you hadn't noticed, 2/3 of the American public now knows the Bushwhackos lied, and their war is a failure in every respect. And speaking of respect, they've managed to shred ours in the world along the way.

This whole thing is a political charade. Can you name more than one or two Senators or Representatives of either party who think we should pull all of our troops out right now? Murtha didn't suggest that.

The only ones who did were the Republican lamers who proposed this measure as an attempt to embarrass the majority of BOTH parties. If the Democrats abstained, they could leave those left to do the same or sit on their thumbs and twirl with the results.

We shall find out soon how many Democrats want us to pull all our troops out immediately, "asshat".

Right, and if they abstain, they are hiding how they feel from the voters. Why not tell the American people and more importantly the soldiers where they stand. Abstaining only muddies the waters and doesn't send a strong message either way.

You're wrong.. as usual. It was just a quick idea I had. I have no way to inject it into the current debate in Congress, and I doubt they'll do it on their own, but his thing has so much press coverage that it would be easy to get their views known to their own constituants.
