a person driving a suburban by themselves is getting less passenger-mpg than a concorde

Over 15mpg? Nice.

18.8mpg much?

I know how I'd rather piss away gas money :D

Best 18.8mpg ever :D

Does he have to drive the car at 150mph to get that mileage? With 7.3 liters in the engine I would think that low speeds <60 would get horrendous gas mileage whereas 100+mph would actually get better mpg, or do I just not know how cars work?

Why should you care? It is none of your business what people choose to spend their money on, and what vehicle they want to drive.

I am going to keep driving my dodge pickup to my work about a mile away by myself every day, just because of this thread. I might even buy an old Suburban to drive also, just because.

The tolerance police meet the enviro-nazi's. They're both on the left, but you can't practice both at the same time.

I say screw tolerance, if you are 1 person and you're driving around in a Suburban, you're being incredibly wasteful. That's a simple fact.
Why would you have to practice tolerance and being considerate at the same time ?

Never argued driving a Suburban with 1 person is not wasteful. Why bring it up if it doesn't imply those people are the only ones being wasteful ? Obviously they are not the only ones or you would've argued against the situations I brought up. Why care about them and not others ?

I agree - your intention was obvious. I personally love making haters work to prove a supposed point.

a 747-400 can get over 100 passenger miles per gallon! (using a 2 class seating arrangement for 524 passengers and using the quoted optimum 5 gallons per mile)

So I should use hundreds of gallons of fuel to fly my 747 to Walmart 3 miles from my house and back...

because we all know that it is more efficient than my Chevy Blazer's 21 mpg.

:roll::roll: To all the SUV haters.

Even if the Suburban got 25 mpg, it would still be worse than the other two planes.

And my Suburban gets over 15 mpg even with my leadfoot wife driving and 99% of her miles are city.

what idiot logic? i posted a fact. do you dispute that concorde could achieve better passenger-mpg than a suburban with just the driver?

And a single person driving a concorde gets worse mileage than one person driving a hummer...

Logic?

I've never heard of a pilot flying a concord without passengers, unless it's to store it or something.. How many Suburbans do you see carrying more than 1 person?

For the record I drive a Grand Cherokee WJ that gets 18mpg avg, 20 highway, but I offroad regularly and make full use of its cargo carrying capability.

This is almost comparable to a Gulfstream G550 business jet (~16 mpg or 18 l/100km per passenger) [19], but much larger than, say a Boeing 747-400 (~91 mpg or 3.1 l/100km per passenger)[20]

Everyone should be riding 500cc motorcycles. They get 50mpg. Unless you have to take more than one person. Then you should only drive a car that gets <40mpg. You can only drive an SUV or pick up truck if you need to move something. People don't count. If you need to transport several people, then you can drive one of those 15 passenger Dodge van type things that get 28mpg.

Why should the rest of us care?

Because the Thugs claim that there is not enough Gas and Oil to go around even though both Oil and Gas inventories at highest since 1998.

Americans should start taking actions against those driving SUV's wasting precious fuel there is apparently not enough for all of us as we are told.

then hybrid car drivers will take action against regular car drivers...

then motorcyclist will take action against them because motorcycles are even more gas efficient...

then the segway guys take acation against them...

then bike rider take action agaisnt them.

then pedestrians take action against them.

None of the above. I am just curious as to why people care about what mileage certain vehicles get. If someone wants to buy something that gets 1mpg, then they should be able to without ridicule, because it is their money, and their right. Your post just seemed like it was against those who drive SUV's.

don't mind him, he liked his Rodeo when he owned it.

The only reason I bought that pile of junk was because it was cheap and I was able to pay cash for it to get rid of an even bigger pile of junk (money pit) BMW my wife owned.

It served its purpose of cheap transportation for the year or so that I owned it...even though it averaged about 14mpg. It was still cheaper than having a car payment. I almost traded it at one point to buy a Honda Civic. I'm glad I don't have it anymore regardless.

I'll never own another SUV.

What on earth do rims have to do with saving gas? Are you talking about our new Lexus IS? The rims on there are the stock rims, just chrome plated, which neither help nor hinder fuel efficiency.

Ahh yes... "It wasn't a bad car but it certainly wasn't great either" were your words. Unfortunate but not surprising that you bought a used car that had so many problems while I have the same exact car (for nearly 12 years now) with none of those problems that you had gone on about. Things like that can happen to any used car buyer. Whoever buys my car used would deal with bad power locks - and that's it. I don't think any of it has anything to do with "never owning another SUV". I think our last thread on this subject had you arguing SUV owners never use their car for what they should right ?
