No one forced me to go here, but it's a great school that's cheap and close to home. I just didn't think I'd mind so much living in dorms and not having a car (not having the girlfriend around sucks, too).

And...I have to live in dorms all four years.

I miss the "real world," i.e., life off campus, my car, and a real job. :(

I should've went to a local school.

This is the real world buddy
No, this is a secluded campus that I'm at 24/7, separate from the real world.

Monastery?

I'm sorry you went there, archcommus, I would have never gone there, but whatever. Should have considered Purdue, or even THE Ohio State University. Then there was also Penn State (University Park only, the satellite campuses are trash).

You won't feel like that very long. The first semester is a tough adjustment. Before long you'll know a lot more people and when your classes get harder you won't have as much free time.

Are there no on-campus jobs available?

I live off campus and I *DON'T* go home. Most days, I'm there 12 or more hours out of the day, and in the general vicinity of campus on school-related business most of the time when I'm not.

My new home is not my parent's basement - it's the ISTC building's basement.

Living off campus is what you make of it.

Get used to it.

Best time of your life. Absolute best. Or at least it should be.

-edit-
Otherwise you wind up one of those guys who stays in his room all the time and never makes any friends. Heck you'll never have this kind of opportunity to nail as many broads as you like or meet new people.

Agreed. Make some friends. Or transfer to another school. I picked my school because it was a top 15 university with Big 10 athletics and was near a fun city. You should've thought your decision through.

In my opinion, the LAST thing you want to do with college is booze and drug it away. Though I guess that's some people's only idea of fun.

iin moderation, one can drink, party, and do well in school and generally have a great time...its all in the moderation.

Moderation? Did you forget what we're talking about here? We're talking about college students!

College
Wake up at noon every day (maybe).
Go to class when you feel like it.
Responsibility?
Can't walk two steps without tripping over hot coeds.
Getting drunk every night means you're a "fraternity brother."

God I miss college.

wow what school did you go to?

You have absolutely no idea how much I wish I was still in college.

All the girls, the parties.....

Living in the real world rocks in some ways....but I wish I was still in school

I would be close to being considered a shut in at college right now. But I'm having the time of my life. I think you either lack social skills, or you picked the wrong school. Oh and yeah maybe a community college would've been the way for you.

Some things to clear up.

I'm not doing any banging, and don't intend to.

I certainly did not want to go to Penn State main which is five hours from my house or any school for that matter with tens of thousands of students.

Don't suggest getting an apartment, I can't.

Don't suggest bringing my car up here, I can't.

I can get an on-campus job to make around $60/week at most. That's certainly nothing like a real job, though.

I'm not minding the school work and I'm meeting a lot of great people. It just really seems like I'm in a secluded world and my own apartment, car, and off-campus job seems like a dream.

I don't get how this conversation went straight to discussing social skills. This isn't about that at all. I'm satisifed with the size of the school, the people at the school, and the proximity of the school to my home (and definitely the price). This is about not liking the secluded, dorm life, NOTHING to do with social life. I'm fine in that regard.
