A game that REALLY scared you when you were young.

I was going through a bunch of my old games when I stumbled upon, Jedi Knight 2: Mysteries of the Sith.....

I really didn?t know much about Star Wars other than the movies were cool back then, that would have been mid 90s. Anyways I remember there were a couple levels when you were exploring the Sith ruins that scared me pretty bad, there was some kind of monster creature that hunted you, I guess the bad grafix mixed with the darkness of the level and it being underwater added to the horror...

I also remember the original Dark Forces, how the Garbage monster scared me pretty bad too while playing.

Anyone else have old games that freaked them out at some point?

Morrowind ( I think I was in 7th or 8th grade). The first time I went beyond the Ghostgate, I didn't realize I needed to take a side road at the beginning for the quest I was on. So I just kept going up...and up...and then I encountered an Ascended Sleeper, who I promptly killed (I was a level 20-something warrior type - didn't really realize how strong I was). Then I ran back down the fucking mountain to the Ghostgate. I also got a nasty surprise on the first Balmora Mage's Guild quest - I got killed by a Cliff Racer (hate those bastards) at level 1 in Molag Mar or The Ashlands. Younger than that, I don't remember being really scared by a video game - although sometimes put in a state of awe (seeing the Colossus and Sathanas for the first time in FS2, for example).

Resident Evil 1, played in the dark with surround sound..

My brother and I sh!t ourselves when the dogs first showed up.. I didn't know how to kill them and faced my first death when one jumped on top of me and sunk it's teeth into my neck... That rabid growling noise followed by a disgusting *pop!* and a spurt of blood... wow, never seen anything like it before.

Resident Evil, when you go down that hallway and the first window on your right hand side after you pass it a dog jumps through, it scared me and I ran like a bitch.

Worse part of it was I knew the dog jumped through the window due to the EGM review I believe it was, yet I still got scared and was expecting it.

System Shock 2...every single moment of playing it was scary, hah.
Jedi Knight had 1 scary moment when you went down to some mines or ancient tunnels in complete darkness with giant lizards. Damn lizards.

I first played System Shock 2 as a high school sophomore. I made the mistake of playing it in a dark room at night with headphones. Practically shit my pants.

AvP, I was thinking about this game not long ago, when I watched AvP 2.That games was pretty intense, dark, couldn't see shit, and then one of those aliens would suddenly pop up and kill you.

Resident evil 2 on three occasions:

When the hands come through the windows shortly after you encounter the first licker.

When the licker smashed through the one way window in the interrogation room.

When the MR.X thing gets back up and smashes through a wall just a few seconds after you killed him and left him for dead in that room.

That game actually made me turn white after some of those shocks lol, great stuff.

Phantasmagoria scared the hell out of me when I was younger. Every other game has merely made me jump or produced a sense of awe. Only Phantasmagoria gave me nightmares.

Half-Life, Dark Forces, Dark Forces 2... anything that had underwater creatures.

In middle school I used to be terrified of having to fight shit underwater, since it would generally be much faster and deadlier than you. I replayed HL a year or so ago and have clearly gotten over that (the damn sharks used to scare me, but no longer)

I must say that the only game that really managed to scare me because the atmosphere was so palpably dense with my adrenaline pumping my heart beat sky high is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (not vanilla, but under modified conditions). But that's not "old" per se. If I really go back in time and try to find one I could maybe pick two, which are, first, the original Half-Life (but only on very specific occasions) and then Shadow Man, a completely different game type and setting.

Resident Evil 1, started playing with really no background on the game and something absolutely huge popped out with a jacked up head and murderized me in like 2 seconds. I was not prepared.

Phantasmagoria, I was in elementary school when I played it. I still remember when that thing busted its way into the basement / cellar / dungeon whatever it was when my avatar was reading the tome in Latin. That game scared the living hell out of me when I was young (3rd grade?). The 2nd one any good? I never picked it up.

"The evil.... its back"

QFT. Something about the music, art direction, the fact you couldn't see everywhere...just fantastic. I remember it took minutes to build up the courage to wade into that water because i damn well knew there'd be a shark in there...me and sharks don't get along.
