I really wish they would start differentiating people who prey on 16 year olds and those who prey on 6 year olds.

If you argue against the current pedophile frenzy, you are labeled a bleeding heart liberal or a pedophile.

It just seems wrong that you are considered a pedophile for attempting to hook up with a 17 year old female, who looks like a full grown woman.

i totally agree.

See what Iron Woode posted above. The 2nd part is so vague that if the persin is under 18 you could still be charged.

So the 16 year old part is weakened by the othr part of the law and that is how the OPs friend is being charged.

It sounds sort of like how it is sometimes legal to have sex with a 16-17 year old but not legal to film it (because it's considered child porn). Like perhaps having sex with a 16-17 year old in this case is possibly legal but asking for sex is illegal.

Although I will admit that a 40yo trying to get it on with a 16yo is fucked up anyway. But it would still be fucked up if she was 18 instead. How much difference does it make, really?

Wow, that makes this whole thing sound like a joke. A pedophile, your friend, really???

I know the socialists turned Canada into a police state, with everyone's consent of course, but 16 is the age of consent in Canada, so he's definitely not a pedo, not legally or biologically.

edit: your friend is 40??? ummm...hrm...maybe this isn't a joke. Idk, maybe the girl is the next Hayley Mills
Dude!

I didn't have this information when I first posted this thread. All I had was he was charged with 2 counts of internet luring. No age or gender was given, so I assumed 14 or less.

on August 6th.

He was charged with 2 counts of Internet Luring.

The Police seized all his computer equipment. I have no other details.

I am shocked, angry and confused. I feel betrayed.

I am disappoint.

UPDATE: I received some information today about my, um, friend.

1. He has been evicted from the apt complex.
2. It was a 16 year old girl he was communicating with in a chat room.
3. he was severely beaten in jail.
4. posters have been put up all over our apt complex

and here is the Police info:

That sucks...even though I detest people who try to prey on underage girls nobody deserves this.

How old is this guy anyway? Hell, I had a girlfriend who was 16 when I was 17...I was banging her.

i don't understand the point of the whole age of consent law. you make an age, you stick with it. in this case it's 18. at 18 you can have sex with whoever you want, up until that point you are considered a minor.

then you add in age of consent, which varies state to state. then you add in online, so if you are in a state that has an age of consent of 16, but you are flirting with a girl in a state that has an age of consent of 18, what happens? and even with age of consent, if she changes her mind (or her parents get involved?), the other party can be charged with statutory rape. so even that isn't set in stone.

choose an age and stick with it, and then you won't have all this mess. i still have no sympathy for a 40 year old man who is chatting up a 16 year old girl, but at least it would be cut and dry, and none of this wishy washy crap.

The entire language being used of "luring" a supposed 'child' is even more creepy and reminds me of super repressed Puritanical religious views about sexuality and 'sins of the flesh'. We're not talking about a guy trying to "lure" a child into his van. e.g.

"Hey, little girl, do you want some candy? Do you want to see my puppy? He's right over here, in my van down by the river."

They're locking up people for wanting to hook-up with young sexually mature girls who are exploring their sexuality or are interested in sex.

The "luring" technique being used is "Hey, do you want some PENIS? Oral sex?"

You, I, and every woman in the world knows that young sexually mature women who are exploring their new-found sexuality are very much interested in older guys. Not 20 years older (at least not usually), but old enough to put them squarely into statutory rape territory.

This ROL must prevail. Don't like it, change it...in the meantime don't fuck with so called girls.

We need Islam. 9 is fine.
Statutory rape laws are not needed to protect children from arranged marriages, being sold into the sex trade, or any other relationship to which the minor does not freely consent without duress. The law (in Western nations) already prohibits and criminalizes arranged marriages and offering up one's child for sex or marriage quid pro quo.

(from quoted story)
Apparently the plan had been in the works for some time. Testimonies revealed that Weiner had spoken at a barbecue, displaying his dislike for Thompson and how he wanted to put child porn on the man's laptop so he would be fired. Some of the images that were actually used were level 4, the second most serious.
Oh shit. Level 4 child porn? That sounds serious, yo. I wonder what the different levels mean. Maybe it's how turned on the investigating officer gets when looking at them :awe:

Funny laws in Canada: you can have anal sex with your 14 year old wife but you need to wait until age 18 if she's only your girlfriend. Regular sex has a totally different set of rules. Trust a lawyer to turn something as simple as sex into the most convoluted thing ever. Anyone reading the laws without knowing what sex was would think it's on the same level of complexity as brain surgery.

yup..just think about how many of your ancestors probably got knocked up at 16....
My cousin was knocked up at 16. I even attended her shotgun wedding. It was cool because I got totally drunk out of my mind and I was only like 10 at the time.

As (I) understand the supreme court of Canada,s decision was only handed down yesterday and still has to go on the books , Then I dont see how this would affect your friend ? There has to be more to it then what you have read in the paper, If this is the case then that would mean the police could go after every Canadian that ever talked to a 16 yo and up to 18 yo since the inception of the internet or the inception of the phrase internet luring . Phone a lawyer yourself and ask, Its free !! As far as him being evicted and having posters plastered everywhere in the building complex that is ILLEGAL , And he should be talking to a civil lawyer regarding that issue . And as far as him being punched out in jail, Well he must of said what he was charged with to someone on his range and they didnt take kindly to that, Never ever do you tell someone what you are charged with , Lie, Tell them it was a 3rd or 4th DUI or anything other than that or if your tough enough and feelin squirrly tell them to mind myob. But alas their will always be someone tougher, But your friend should really look into a civil lawyer as his Charter of Rights and Freedoms are being abused as far as his apt complex goes. And thats a fact Jack !!
