A&E Storage Wars - interesting show :)

The auctioneers in this show have stated a few times that they make money for the storage companies and take a cut.

You need to explain your quote better......

What they do is auction off the delinquent storage units and then they get a cut of what the unit sells for.
Which is only right...they auction it off for free??? Noooooo

I can't stand Jerrod. Why is he so intent on seeing his wife crash and burn and be wrong? They're business partners too. Granted, all of them can be somewhat obnoxious at times since the show feels that makes things more interesting. But, seriously? Dropping a bunch of heavy boxes on her and then saying "wasn't me" and "no big deal."

Yeah that kinda pissed me off too. She actually could have been hurt there worse than she was.

This sounded like a very interesting show to me, until I found out that it's staged. They go in sort through the stuff, fix some it, etc.

The final proof was in a storage unit they recently 'opened'. Some items were from a very well known robotics competition, and it's very clear that the show's crew did some 'work' on the items.

Oh well. At least I know Hell's Kitchen isn't fake. 🙄

Edit: Also, I hope Barry gives the crap to Jerrod or Goodwill or something. I know he doesn't have the ability to sell the little stuff since he's just looking for the 1 item, but all the other stuff has value and a little thrift shop could probably move some of it instead of just sending it to the dump each week.

I think he does, I think I remember him letting jarod take the junk left over he wouldn't bother with. Frankly its easier than dealing with disposal/hauling cost

Which episode/items was that for the robotics competition? I'm not really familiar with robotics so I'm curious what they did and modified.

He might. I just remember the one episode where he's throwing crap all over the place and Jerrod in the voiceover was getting mad that Barry was breaking stuff that could be worth something at the thrift shop.

Well he did atleast once, but yea i'm sure they have different views of what is junk.

How do the robotics prove it's staged? What "work" on the items was done? Clarify.

Been wanting to check this out for a while. I like a lot of these shows that don't seem like they'd be interesting at all when you hear about them, but end up being quite good, and you can't explain why you like it so much (Pawn Stars).

I'll check it out.

Anybody know if Brandi ever posed naked? Id love to see those pics. She definitely seems like an ex stripper.

Watched it last night. Interesting concept, but I hate the contrived drama.

this.

the idea of bidding on the storage units and then seeing what is inside is entertaining. and if the show was only about that, i would probably watch more than the two episodes i have seen. but all the reality show style forced drama between the bidders was stupid and boring.

Love the show. when brandon almost kicked daves ass was awesome, was really hoping Brandon cracked him a couple. hell even brandons dad Darrell was hoping for the fight.

storage wars texas sucks they try way too hard to not make it look scripted but it clearly is.

and that other one Storage Hunters??? damn that show is 100% fake. the units are staged.

so after they think they find something valueable, they take it to an expert who says "this is worth $XXXX"

Do they actually sell it for that much? or is that just some number they use to make they 'supposed' profits look better?

Yeah, I regularly watch Storage Wars and generally enjoy it. Like spacejamz said above, it does seem like they inflate the value on some of the crap in the units, like old beat up furniture that's not even an antique... Half of that stuff couldn't be sold for more than $50 on CL and they're putting values of $250-500 on it. Pretty sure that might be the MSRP New price, not some used piece-of-crap price. Dave is pretty good at inflating the value of stuff to make his "profits" look healthy, but we never hear the true story about the junk he buys and can't get rid of.

I use to really like Pawn Stars, but I think Comcast cut TruTV for our tier in this area earlier this year and I can't watch it anymore because of that.

My son and I watch it pretty religiously.

Hester is really the only one that HORRIBLY overprices things. Everything he prices is ridiculous. Everyone else seems to be fairly decent with their pricing. When they get quotes from experts on items it's always retail. You will often see an expert say "Its worth $3000.... I'll give you $1500 for it right now".

I really hope Hester is just playing a "character" for the show now... if not that guy is certifiable.

I do find it funny that Hester had to downsize. He probably would have been ok if he hadnt have dropped a ton of dough into that big ass truck.

I love Storage Wars it is a fun show. I'd rank American Pickers #1, then Storage Wars, then Auction Kings. As far as Pawn Stars go they just seem to rip people off more then all the other show. American Pickers guys give fair prices.

... trucks, trailers, pickups... he's a grade-A moron. Like I said previously his pricing is beyond silly. He'll have some 1974 Schwinn Varsity bike and say $200 vintage bike... WHAT?! Everything is through the roof.

I LOVED when we lost the bet on the couch with Barry.

All of them just joke about him constantly.

PS: I want to see Brandi nekkid

Yepppp... watched that episode. Bet was $5,000 that the couch was vintage. Turned out to be a 1950s modern couch.

I agree that when they do an appraisal of how much they can sell their find its way too overpriced. Staged show for sure. Anyone visit one of their store locations? Maybe when I'm in the LA area pay Brandi a visit, when Jarrod is out. :sneaky:
