Those XLS bookshelves look really nice for $200! I wonder if their bass response is "that much better" than the not-so-stellar MTX 5i's I bought. I should've gotten those instead of the MTX 5i bookshelves for $50. You get what you pay for.

So, you're going to build your own, huh? Remember this; the crossover, drivers and the cabinet all interact. A crossover designed for a set of drivers in a .5cf cabinet will not make the drivers sound the same (at least the woofer) in .3cf or .7cf cabinet. :)

As long as people people find it interesting I'll keep it going. ;)

As far as building them up goes I am looking to follow kits for the most part. I will have the cabinets custom built with the same or very close to original interior volume but with more height and less depth to accommodate desk use and bring the speakers up to ear level without the use of stands. I'll also most likely design in some ascetically features, nothing crazy just enough to stave off the boring rectangle syndrome.

I did check out the Behringer amp and it dose look pretty impressive for the price so I'll keep it in mind. In your case I would say you have too much amp and not enough speaker. ;)
