Where us Christians and the Darwinists disagree is in macro-evolution. I think you have to be ignorant to not see that species evolve. I think it takes a huge amount of faith to believe that "through chance and time" a single cell somehow became a human. The odds of that are beyond measure. I wasn't an atheist/agnostic until I actually read the bible. That was when I realized it was just a poorly written fantasy novel with some historical references.

"Scientific theory" is very different than the layman definition of a "theory". I don't understand why creationism supporters refuse to accept this. The term has been clearly defined for a long time. A scientific theory is essentially a fact. Gravity, motion, thermodynamics, evolution, etc. - all scientific theories supported by vast amounts of evidence. Please remove blinders.

BTW, acknowledging science and facts of our universe does not mean you need to disown God. Reference the millions of Christians that accept evolution.

Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old. This literal account came from Martin Luther. IIRC, medieval monks had come to this conclusion by counting back the ages of characters in the bible to determine the rough age. The Bible doesn't explicitly give a number. This was only a best guess. Both Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas asserted that the creation story was an allegory not to be taken literally.

People on various sides of this debate (there are more than two, apparently) are all guilty of putting the other sides into buckets. "Christians" is a large category of people and it is only certain fundamentalist subsets that literally believe the earth is 6000 years old. You'd be hard-pressed to find many Catholics who do, for example, and they represent a big chunk of "Christians."

Accepting that a god exists is different than accepting that the bible is the word of god. The fact that you think they are one in the same is proof that your supposed wisdom is only in relation to the complete lack thereof in the people you surround yourself with.
