I was told to research evolution. I advised that I already have.

But then again, using your thought process...all of ancient history is nonsense. How can we believe that Ancient Egypt existed? All we have to go by is stories passed down and some weirdo's carvings on a wall. I mean...who does that?

By this logic Ra and company would have existed because they were recorded.

A bush that burned yet wasn't consumed that also talked.

A virgin birth.

Angels killing the first born of an entire city.

Demons possessing pigs.

I'll let you choose your own reply.

I can either:

1) Respond and explain how those things are possible
2) Respond with scientific theories that have been proven as impossible
3) Both

And please don't get worked up guys. I like debate and I hope none of you get upset with me replying.

So can any scientist because...that is how science works. Now you know. Science publication is the land of the ultimate forum trolls. Scientists live to tear down the incorrect hypotheses offered by their colleagues.

Where us Christians and the Darwinists disagree is in macro-evolution. I think you have to be ignorant to not see that species evolve. I think it takes a huge amount of faith to believe that "through chance and time" a single cell somehow became a human. The odds of that are beyond measure. If you would like to debate this, I have a thread in Discussion Club where we have a rather large debate about it.

takes about 9 months. happens every day.

And that's where you're wrong. People who grow up and are indoctrinated into this bullshit are the people who come up to be in the tea-party and other right wing nutjobs. You really think your life isn't impacted in a negative way by this crap?
Oh please...
I know plenty of Christians that vote on the other side. 80-90% of the people at the church near my residence that vote voted for Obama. I'm willing to bet you on that.

How did a state like California(of all places) filled mostly with liberals and little to no tea party and other right wing nutjobs manage to reject gay marriage?
So much for tea party and right wing nutjobs, huh?

Can you please explain to me the giraffe's Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve and why that, all by itself, doesn't make intelligent design the most idiotic theory ever?

There are a lot of really smart people all trying to argue with someone who is an ex-alcoholic who probably wasn't all that smart to begin with. So, this is pretty much every religion thread ever on the internet.

Give it a thousand years and people will be worshiping the great Põtèr, who did slay the foul Voldemort. We have lost the true ways, and now cannot do the wand magic. But we know the story is true, because we know the UK existed, we've even found the ruins of the Kings Cross railway station.

Jesus made it that way to challenge your faith. Duh.

I wasn't an atheist/agnostic until I actually read the bible. That was when I realized it was just a poorly written fantasy novel with some historical references.

"Scientific theory" is very different than the layman definition of a "theory". I don't understand why creationism supporters refuse to accept this. The term has been clearly defined for a long time. A scientific theory is essentially a fact. Gravity, motion, thermodynamics, evolution, etc. - all scientific theories supported by vast amounts of evidence. Please remove blinders.

BTW, acknowledging science and facts of our universe does not mean you need to disown God. Reference the millions of Christians that accept evolution.

Funny you say this, because quite honestly, the evolutionary theory is why I accepted God exists.

Once I stopped being a rationalist, I became much wiser than previously.

Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old. This literal account came from Martin Luther. IIRC, medieval monks had come to this conclusion by counting back the ages of characters in the bible to determine the rough age. The Bible doesn't explicitly give a number. This was only a best guess. Both Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas asserted that the creation story was an allegory not to be taken literally.

People on various sides of this debate (there are more than two, apparently) are all guilty of putting the other sides into buckets. "Christians" is a large category of people and it is only certain fundamentalist subsets that literally believe the earth is 6000 years old. You'd be hard-pressed to find many Catholics who do, for example, and they represent a big chunk of "Christians."

Accepting that a god exists is different than accepting that the bible is the word of god. The fact that you think they are one in the same is proof that your supposed wisdom is only in relation to the complete lack thereof in the people you surround yourself with.
