It seems like they don't want to kill the nano line. If the touch got a camera and radio, who would ever want to buy a nano?

This way if you want a cheap music device, get a nano. Cheap app device, get a touch.

The whole thing was a bit disappointing..

Also, no 64bit iTunes? You rewrote the whole core of OS X, and you can't rewrite iTunes? Ugh.. hopefully they at least optimized the code a bit more. It's such a beast to run.

Yeah, digging a little deeper I was disappointed as well.

The Nano seems OK with the video camera and FM Tuner with live pause. However, the Nano has no wifi to get the video off it you will have to attach it to a computer to do anything with the video. Plus, I can't find anything that says it will take still pictures.

Really surprised that the Touch didn't get a video camera.

Overall, the nicest thing about the announcement is home page/screen management for the iPhone and Touch.

Yea, that's nice, but very rarely am I at my computer to do that. I'm usually bored and then decide to rearrange some icons. I guess it's nice to have it in there just in case.. but overall, I was quite unimpressed with their announcements.

I'm downloading iTunes 9 to see how the Home Sharing works. This could get rid of my ChronoSync process that I run to sync up my Media Center with my laptop. We'll see...

I for one believe:

1) The classic deserves to be the big player. The nano was always a mini classic. To give the classic no video camera and fm radio is a shame.

Now I understand why though. The classic has gone through many revamps and it's a tiny thing for carrying a 1.8" HD. You can't get any smaller.

2) The nano has room to move with its flash memory and they reshape that thing all the time. They can make the whole thing slightly bigger and not lose much considering they redesign this thing all the time.

3) WTF the touch deserves a camera moret han the nano. Ok, I get it. For $199 people are getting an insane music device and a near computer experience and gaming that beats the PSP and DS. Yeah, you can't make it too iPhone. Now, it's the ultimate blog on the go tweet device if you throw in a camera.

I suppose I can understand.

I'm just disappointed because the whole planet was expecting a camera on the iPod Touch

Home Sharing is awesome!

I think it's super cool those little Nanos have a video camera. I'm not quite sure of the point, since even your FAR cheapo phones nowadays have a vid cam on them, but it's still pretty cool for a device so tiny. Funny that the Touches don't have a camera tho, guess they didn't want too much cannibalism from the iPhone line...

I am just pissed that spent my bink cashback on a nano (ended up free) now that this thing came out

You knew there was an Apple Music Event coming up and you bought an iPod?? You violated the second cardinal rule of being a Machead: Never buy new hardware within 4 months of an Apple event!!! 😉 😀

Well...it has a radio now...maybe i can finally get one and ditch my zune (I hate my zune).
Well, the Zune HD has HD radio.

true....how long do you think it will be before they start discounting them?😉

I'vr got iTunes 9.0 up and running, still don't get Mixes... I even read the help file:

To play a Genius Mix:
On the left side of the iTunes window 9below Genius), click Genius Mixes.
To start playling a Genius Mix, double-click one of the mixes.

What?

No, the iPhone/iPod Touch is no where near the quality that you get out of a DS or PSP. Sorry, but you just don't have the analog controls necessary on the iPhone/Touch. The touchscreen is great for strategy and other simpler games, but fast paced FPS, etc.. are just not good enough on the device. However, they've combatted that issue by making the games SUPER cheap.. so it kind of balances out IMO.

As for iTunes 9, I really like it... but they changed the UI again. It's a different gradient on the buttons.. no more dark grey backgrounds, updated icons, etc... Now I want a theme to match this for OS X. Ugh.. I don't know why they choose to skin their separate apps differently than the actual OS. It's annoying since now there are about 4 different UI's in OS X. This is why I dislike Windows.. and OS X keeps getting more and more like it. Yes, it's beautiful, but c'mon Apple... :/

Perplexed that the new Touch doesn't have a video camera or built-in mic, but am looking forward to ordering my new Nano!

It's an interesting strategy:

You give the Nano all these new features because why? It's like a dumbphone. You don't get an app store, you don't get a web browser, you don't get near PC-like interface

You could give the Touch all these things but it would be iPhone minus calls. WTF right? Also if they introduce this, then they have nothing to bring out next time around. Moreover, a mic is VERY dangerous on the touch. Skype anyone? Google Voice? LOL.... FM radio is a no because that would kill the purpose of being able to buy iTunes on your iPod Touch. What about camera? It would be a smartphone. Tweet device.

So it's easy to give it to the Nano, because what can you do with these things? Only very limited stuff. On the touch you can do so much more with these new additions. Thus they keep the Nano in its small sandbox but throw it big toys while the Touch is still out in the real world missing some key features to make it an iPhone.

I'd be hard pressed to care less about most things they announced today. I am, however, really grateful Apple found some sense and let us take genres out of the browser. Customizing it's location and other things is pretty nice too.

I'm not at home so I don't know how well the App rearranging will work but it looks good so far.

One last thing, does anybody with multiple machines and a Windows Home Server know if you can install iTunes on your WHS and have it sync libraries through Home Sync? That would be AWESOME. Let me reiterate that: it would be AWESOME! 🙂
