Now shows OOS online for me. Still shows availability in all my local stores though. Maybe I'll pick one up today.🙂

I think they are still in stock most places, putting in my central coast CA zipcode. I just paid the $5 extra for shipping, not worth driving 40 miles for $5:

Santa Barbara/Goleta Superstore
Goleta, CA 93117 (805) 968-2440 40 Miles In-Stock
Oxnard Superstore
Oxnard, CA 93030 (805) 988-9898 96 Miles In-Stock
Bakersfield Superstore
Bakersfield, CA 93309-1011 (661) 322-2122 100 Miles In-Stock
Woodland Hills Superstore
Woodland Hills, CA 91367 (818) 999-9101 133 Miles Out-Of-Stock
Fresno Superstore
Fresno, CA 93720 (559) 440-0233 147 Miles In-Stock

I just picked up one of these from the Midtown NY store....they had like a stack of em 10 ft high....and the web pages still shows all the stores in this NY/NJ area in stock.

if anyone really wants one taht badly, but for some reason can't mail order it...lmk...i can try and swing by the compusa's near my home after work (or get my bro to do it) and pick it up for you...

😛

Whoot! I got in on this. I went to the Hillsborough Avenue location in Tampa, Florida and there maybe 5 on the shelf. They had higher price tags and for some reason, they were all located on the top shelf which you need a ladder to get to. I found one that someone obviously left on a lower shelf and asked if it was still on sale. Yup! $99 and tax and I am out the door. I would say hurry if you want one.

i'm sitting pretty here with the $80 80-gig WD hd that i got a few weeks back.... i don't have to scratch and claw my way to this deal...

I received a notice today from COMPUSA:

<< Your CompUSA order (#xxxxxxxx) is currently out of stock.

Due to the high demand for this product, we are currently out of stock.
We are working with our vendors to replenish this product as soon as possible.

Decent Drive, Great Price. Good luck to anyone still trying to get a hold of one of these puppies.

OT: Haha. I live in the middle of Long Island, NY; about 30 minutes from the nearest CompUSA. I ordered one of these puppies online when they first were available (hey, I'm lazy). It shipped today, and you'd figure that theyd send it out from at least somewhere in NY. Here's what my tracking info says:

Gotta love how much money is wasted on stupidity. Does anybody know why a company would waste money on shipping like this? Are CompUSA.com and CompUSA the B&M store 2 different divisions of the same company?

<< My 80 GB hard drive is showing up as 74.5 GB, is that correct? >>

Yup, it's a little trick the hard drive manufacturers like to play. The box is saying that there are 80 billion bytes, NOT 80 true gigabyte (1 KB = 1,024 bytes, 1MB = 1,024KB, 1GB = 1,024MB). If you multiply 74.5 * 1,024 three times you'll get 80 billion.

Thanks, I knew it was going to be a little bit less than 80 GB, but I wasn't expecting 5.5 GB less.

Just imagine when they start making drives in the terabyte range. An 80 terabyte hard drive would ONLY be 72.76 terabytes. 🙂

All you guys are lucky. The 2 CompUSA's in Hawaii didn't receive ANY drives in. But they did put peoples names down on a list in the computer and they said they would call when the drives came in, possibly a month or so. I'm still waiting for a CDRW drive from last summer.... + they would only let people sign up for 1 drive (even though the add didn't state any limits). I signed my wife up for one as well as my friend... Hopefully they come in!

got one for the replay tv in lewisville.... had to climb up the ladder to dig it out from behind the 20 gigs...

they had 1 left if anyone is interested.....

I agree. Anyone else wondering why they bother to check "local" availability when you order online, only to ship the item from Texas? Staples does the same thing.
