Hope this is NOT repost.

This week your Local CompUSA, first page
CompUSA-package 80GB HD for $99 after INSTANT rebate.
Maxtor 5400rpm HD, I believed.
SKU: 290124

Just in case you can't wait up in the morning or your local store has limited supply, go get one today and pricematch later.

Here is my confirmation: I decided to get one myself today. Side sticker has following prints.
Maxtor DiamondMax
Buffer size: 2MB
Data Transfer Rate: 100MBytes/sec (Ultra ATA/100)
KIT: K06h080G

Actual sticker on the HD stating it is
D540-4K
Model: 4K080H4
Spin Rate: 5400rpm

Package included ATA100 Cable, metal bracket, installation disk, warranty.

for those said it is ATA66, I really have no idea where did you get your proof? According to my mobo, it is UDMA5 and according to Maxtor website, it is ATA100.

Well, you guys just have to trust me on this. (don't have scanner w/ me) ;)

Go to the local CompUSA and get one today.
Make sure it is COMPUSA package 80GB HD.
If you have doubt, don't open the package until tomorrow.

BTW I intend to stay here for a long time and maybe become a elite member.....

Is there a limit on number you can get? I'll pick up 2-3 if not.
But if so, I'll just get one.

TimeKeeper-
I am on the washington post webpage and it has a copy of the print edition. Can you tell me where the ad was? Searching...
EDIT - I couldn't find it. They did not have copies of the adds on their site. I guess I will go in the morning and check. My Tivo needs this real bad, damn olympics.

Well this is a good deal imo. I called my local CompUSA and gave them the sku. They said it was a Maxtor 80gb 5400rpm price was $139.99.
So we are looking at a $40 instant rebate. Hop this is helpfull for my first post :)

Yeah, but it's an ATA66 drive.

A better deal is the Western Digital 60GB 7200K ATA100 drive at OM 2/17 for about $99.99 AR and AC (tax will be on $159.99)

Do they even make ATA66 drives for real anymore? Go to the Maxtor site and they talk about upgrading some of their old ATA66 drives to ATA100 using spftware to do a firmware upgrade.

i'm not necessarily agreeing with dajo, but you are ignoring the important detail that that drive is 7200rpm, this is 5400.

This drive is not a retail boxed Maxtor and was never $139.99. As TimeKeeper stated in the original post it is a CompUSA rebranded Maxtor drive in CompUSA packaging. CompUSA is stocking these for this sale only. Is even states "special purchase" in the CompUSA sale ad for tomorrow. The price is already at $99.99 today in my area.

GetReal - So what is "you're area". I don't care about the specs or brand because my Tivo doesn't care, but I do want a decent warranty.

Whats the big deal about the speed anyway, I mean by the sounds of it most people want these for storage, so speed would not be a factor. This is a good deal and I think i will pick one up. Anybody wanna buy my 30gig Maxtor?
