<< So I jump in the shower >>

And you're surprised you missed out on this one??? Every serious Hot Dealer knows:

CLEANLINESS = EMPTY-HANDEDNESS

Next time, forgo to the shower, and the call.
Just show up. If they say they are out, threaten to STAY (and stand right in front of a fan) unless they scrape one up for ya.

WORKS EVERY TIME!

NY Manhattan (5th Ave & 37th) store out as of 2/23,
NY Manhattan (Broadway & 57th) store shows that there are 3 left as of 2/23 4:00pm, but 4:35pm there's only 1 left (since I bought 2 😛) the clerk said that there's no more left, but the computer says there's 1 left, so maybe he's hiding it behind for himself or something? 😕
So badger them and maybe you'll get one!

I went to the local Compusa here after checking online. It says they are in stock. I go there, can't find 'em, so I ask a friendly redshirt. There they are he points. No, I reply, that is a 60 gig hard drive for $50 more, I want this one here in the ad. He goes to the case. Here they are. No, this is a 7200 RPM drive for $80 more. Oh, let me look more he says.

He can't find them, so he goes and checks the computer. Oh yeah, we have 3 in stock. Let me go find them. I wait 5 minutes, constantly being accosted my redshirts - it is as if they smell blood in the water and swarm - can I help you, looking for anything in particular. Note that these people were standing not 5 feet away when the first redshirt said he was going to go track me down one.

Eventually he comes back, with nothing in hand. Oh, they must have been stolen he said. Yeah, stolen from me by you, you slime.

I hate Crapusa!

Whew...glad I scored TWO on Saturday.

One formatting in my server right now (large storage volume).
The other going to one of my bosses (same purpose for his son's computer).

I'm ordering a Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM w/ ATA card for ~$145 (delivered, after coupon) from Staples in the next day or so.

GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY I LOVE OBSCENE AMOUNTS OF STORAGE!

This is a littel bit OT. If you guys still looking for a hd. I'm might be getting rid of mine since I just bought a 160gig. It was just formatted with winxp and has all the original stuff that came with the box, since I didn't touch anytihgn but the HD. I'm asking $100 shipped since it basically brand new. email me at [ripperx2k@cox.net] if you're interested.

When this deal came out, I went to my compusa and they were out of stock so.... the manager said they were giving out rainchecks. I got one and still awaiting for the drive to come in. How are these drives? Are they any good? I'm just planning to store pictures mp3's and movies on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sigh, since my store was sold out I ordered online last tuesday when they were in stock online.
My order is STILL "processing".
Can't wait to call and complain tomorrow :\

Mista Voo just take a look through this thread for opinions and helpful tips.

For example...

jasonja posted this on page three of this thread;

BTW folks... I ran the Maxtor Acoustic manager software to set this drive to "quiet mode" since this was going in my ReplayTV. To my surprise this drive was shipped in quiet mode, so for those of you who want max performance out of this drive then you may want to download the acoustic management software from Maxtor's site and turn off the acoustic management setting. This drive is super quiet... makes less noise then the original Quantum drive in my ReplayTV. [/i] >>

I haven't even installed this drive yet but when I do I'm sure I'll be checking this out. Esp. if it gives it a performance boost. 🙂

I was able to pick up few of these drives. And i actually have one to spare if anyone needs one. Still brand new sealed.
PM me if your interested 🙂

they told me that no rainchecks were available for this item, as it was being discontinued.

Hi I bought 1 from CompUSA but am planning to return it. It has been unopened. Rather than give it to a nameless face, thought rather pass it to a fellow Anandtecher.

No markup no premium - just pay $99+taxes but in cash. I am Bay Area, CA. If any one of you need it send me a PM. You will have to come and pick it up.

went to my local CompUSA and the salesperson couldn;t find any even though the website and the computer there said there were 4. One salesperson said they were either 'lost or stolen' Seems to be the theme at CompUSA, I might have to get a part time job there 🙂

If anyone in Bay Area(San Jose-Palo Alto) is interested I got 2 of these drives(still unopened in sealed boxes) that I want to return. I will get rid of them to anyone willing to pick up for the price I paid for them($99+tax). PM or email me at vlad@gurovich.net by tonight, I will be going to Compusa at around 8PM pacific to return them

Jumped on it too quickly, cant afford it and I need that $200+ cash back soon.
Im only providing service to BayArea ATers who missed out. Otherwise, back to CUSA it goes to sell for $139.99 each....

This drive is on sale again starting Sunday (4/21). Sadly, this time there is a rebate involved so it's $119.99 in the store, less $20 rebate. Still not a bad deal, especially if you want to upgrade your ReplayTV.
