PrineFan;

The $29 Vidoe card is SiS 305 PCI card. If you also need to pay for shipping and tax, it may not be such good deal though...

woohoo! i just scored one in the edison, nj store.

they had none left in the case behind the shelf, but there were this steel rolling rack near the service counter that i just happened to look in. there were two 80gigers in there. so i pulled aside a service dude and asked if i can have one. he said yeah. then there was this kid walking by and he was like... "are those it?" so he was saying something like he asked someone and they claimed to be out of stock. then he asked someone else and they said they would go in back to check. i am guessing the guy found a few in back and put them on that rack. hehe... i swooped in and scavenged one 🙂 so lesson learned... keep hassling the employees becuz they do have them in stock.

I just bought 2 in Manchester, CT. They had about 50. I was tempted to buy 4, what a deal! RAID is setup now! Nice and fast. Good drives, great deal. This is my second buy because of this forum. Thank you all! 🙂

Hmm....Well, over in Pennsylvania right now and through this week is Tax-Free PC *Plus* week. The "plus" means that you can buy peripherals and other computer upgrades tax-free! Before, you had to buy a WHOLE system w/ monitor and everything to get a break. Good time for stuff like this.

Now, CompUSA has real-time inventory tracking online, but when you search for the SKU, nothing comes up. 🙁 Guess I'll actually have to make a trip there. But $100 for a 80GB drive? That IS good.

I bought one of these today, actually got it for $89.99 i signed up for the aol thing and got another $10 off.

They have tons of them left at my compusa

<< went to compusa in dearborn michigan this morning-- 80gig hard drive sold out along >>

I don't see anything to the effect of "limited quantities" on the ad. Jennifer Granholm recently went after retailers (more specifically CC) that offered merchandise and had no stock and did not offer rainchecks.

Michigan law requires the retailer to offer rainchecks if they dont have the product. Don't let 'em tell you otherwise. Some uninformed people like to use the line the line "We dont give rainchecks here".

nice and fast? Wouldn't a single 7200 rpm drive be faster? In the real world did you actually notice a difference anyway?

Just so you know, it's not really "real time" - it's only updated every 24 hours - this is according to a CompUSA 1-800# service rep

I'm going to compusa tomorrow, if anyone wants one for 99.99+tax+s/h (USPS Priority w/ delivery conf) + a small compensation (i'm looking for an ata/66 card or matched p133 processors 😉 ) I would do so for them.

I bought 2 this morning around 10:30am at Hauppauge, NY.
There were ~25 in stock when I left.
btw, They didn't put them onto the regular HD section, instead they stacked them on the side with other bulk brown boxes.
I almost missed that.

picked up one yesterday at the King of Prussia store for 99.99 out the door (as its tax free week in Pa). they had one left in the glass case as of noon yesterday. good luck

Went yesterday morning to my store here in Memphis, TN when they opened, and they still had a good 2-3 dozen right over by the CSR desk, so I picked up two of them 😀 Went back to CompUsa yesterday afternoon to pickup a part for a client and they still had about 2 dozen left. If I had some extra money lying around right now, I would pick up another 2 😛

w00t w00t! With this additional 80GB drive, my system now has: two 80GB drives, two 60GB drives, one 30 GB drive. I think that should be enough for now...

WOW! I hope you have some fans! Combine those drives with an AthlonXP and you could rival an industrial-strength oven.

<< keep in mind these are 11.7ms 5400 rpms. I think the seek time turns me off the most. =) >>

Yup, I kept that in mind for about a minute, then I realized that I could wait the extra 3ms for my pr0n and MP3s to load 😉

Just wondering, would these be alright to use as a main drive for a person that really doesn't know alot about computers and doesn't care a ton about performance? The person is really only going to be saving and typing word documents, listening to mp3s, and web surfing.

they wouldn't be complaining, if anything they won't ever use 80gb of storage. but at least they will be set for a long time.

<< Yes it will be fine but it begs the question does such a user need 80 gigs? >>

Aight, I lied. I have a 60gb WD drive with basically the same specs as this one. I'm building a system for my sister for college, and was contemplating whether or not to get her a 40gb 7200rpm drive, or give her my 60gb WD drive (not even a year old) and replace that with this nice new 80gb for my "video" collection 😉 Looks like I just gained 20gigs.

Edit: Came to $113 and change with taxes, still a good deal.
