I was laid up for two weeks in February. Worst illness I can remember. For about 4 days all I could was was drag myself out of bed to get water and occasionally make some soup if I felt up to it. Lots of dry heaving. I would feel the nausea coming on and almost want to cry before dragging myself to the toilet for a painful ten minute stay.

I have to remember to stay healthy.

I got it two years ago, which was the first year I skipped the flu vaccine. I was so sick that my eyebrows hurt. Like literal pain from where the hairs went into my skin. You can't focus on anything other than just getting through the moment. Awful.

I just got my flu shot this morning. I have no spleen and they say it's a must every year because infections can be really bad for me.

I think I got the flu once in my life over 10 years ago. Don't think I got the shot back then.

I'm ashamed to say I never got a regular flu shot for probably the past ~10 years (during and after college, no primary physician), but as of a few years ago I started getting it. No reason not to; it's free at CVS (if you have insurance) and you might only have to wait ~10 minutes.

Doesn't matter if you're a young, healthy person - you don't want to risk infecting (whether first, second or third+ hand) an older person or kid.
My mom always had us get flu shots when I was a kid, then when I got older (around high school through a few years after college) and on my own I didn't get one. Now I've been getting one for the past few years cause my work offers it and it's easy to get (even if they didn't offer it I'd get one at Walgreens or wherever). There's just only positives to getting one, for me, so I do it.

The last time I was sick was in 2008/2009, and I think that was a food bug as opposed to flu. It was only for a day, IIRC, and was mainly vomiting/nausea when not laying down. Before then I have no idea when I got flu-sick last... probably ten years before that.

I'm on the tail end of the flu. Yesterday I was completely knocked out most of the day. Few days of productivity flushed down the toilet, though I suppose that's better than outright death.
How do you know this? Have you seen the other side? Does it look bad for you if you die?

A lot of people get a little cold and are sick a few days and they think they had "the flu."
In reality, the flu wants to kill you, and it will do everything in it's power to make you suffer until you die.

That is why flu shots are recommended.
Oh man I wish my colds only lasted a few days lol. Thankfully I don't get colds often but when I do they last for weeks. The few times I got the flu it lasted a few days, it was the standard "24 hour" flu.

Got C-Diff once... now THAT is not fun, it's like the flu on steroids. So much puking omg.

My FiL had to take a ambulance ride last year and spend several days in the hospital after he got a cold/flu. He went from regular eating, talking, etc... to a catatonic state almost over night.

So yes please get your flu shots and make sure you are up to date on all vaccinations.

Had the flu once and it sucked donkey balls, so I’ve been getting the flu shot for many years.

When I worked at the hospital I used to get the flu shot as they would come to our office to administer it so it was not really inconvenient and it was to protect patients more than ourselves, so it was definitely a good idea anyway. Now days I don't really bother, unless I happen to be at the doctors or something and I can get it done while I'm there then I'll get it done, but it's one of those things where I don't really bother to take time to actually go do it and wait etc. If I'm at the doctor then there's not really any waiting involved, and I'm already there anyway.

Suppose I should try to get it done every year though, especially now that I'm getting older.

My dad died of myocarditis which was caused by a virus attacking his heart. He was in his mid-forties hadn't ever been sick in his adult life and went from being completely fine to dead in 3 days. They weren't able to identify the virus, but a good chance it was the flu. The flu has many ways to kill you and back then my parents didn't get the shot.

I never got it until a few years ago when my work started making me. Since then I've made DW get it every year and also get it for my daughter. It really annoys me that my in-laws refuse to get it and last year I didn't really want them around my daughter because of it. It just really isn't a big deal, especially nowadays that you can get them at any drug store and they are free if you have insurance (Thanks Obama!).

I'm afraid to get vaccinated because I don't want autism. I don't want to be on the spectrum.

I'm getting my jab in a few hours. If I suddenly get really fucking good at counting things and remembering I'll take a trip to Vegas and the hookers and blow will be on me!
