wow..that was a pretty big spike compared to previous years...

In recent years, flu-related deaths have ranged from about 12,000 to — in the worst year — 56,000, according to the CDC.

That's insane! Did not realize flu was THAT lethal, I knew it had a chance of causing death but thought it was more if there were other issues or preexisting conditions.

I almost died due to it. They weren't sure I was going to make it the first night in ICU.

If you take the flu away from people, they'll just use ebola.

I don't know man, hanta virus is much easier to contract in the US. Just rub some "house mouse" (likely p. leucopus) poop in your eyes and you're good to go!

I thought i read whooping cough and or polio was making a comeback due to anti-vaxers. seems that would be a good substitute.

I'm ashamed to say I never got a regular flu shot for probably the past ~10 years (during and after college, no primary physician), but as of a few years ago I started getting it. No reason not to; it's free at CVS (if you have insurance) and you might only have to wait ~10 minutes.

Doesn't matter if you're a young, healthy person - you don't want to risk infecting (whether first, second or third+ hand) an older person or kid.

I had two Aunts die from it less than a week apart in January. Well, technically they died from complications but they are still linked officially. One had an aneurysm and the other had a runaway bronchitis infection at the same time.

oh yeah, that's a good one. Pertussis.

....but polio? Holy shit if that makes a real comeback. I've heard that there are increasing cases in certain parts of the world (where it has pretty much persisted, anyway, due to endlessly failed governments), but not developed nations, yet?

I'm on the tail end of the flu. Yesterday I was completely knocked out most of the day. Few days of productivity flushed down the toilet, though I suppose that's better than outright death.

Dang that's early. Sure it wasn't antifreeze or rat poison?

A lot of people get a little cold and are sick a few days and they think they had "the flu."
In reality, the flu wants to kill you, and it will do everything in it's power to make you suffer until you die.

That is why flu shots are recommended.
