8 hour road trip, which poison would you pick?

so, I've got to go visit the extended family in the great frozen north this up-coming July... it's probably going to be the last time I see my grandmother alive, so I kinda have to do it. my entire immediate family's going up so that my grandmother can see her new granddaughter as well.

I've got 3 options for getting up there and I can't decide which is the best of the worst...

#1: go with my parents.
+I won't have to do any driving or pay for gas
-I'll be stuck in a car with my parents for 8 hours
-my dad listens to terribad music but my mom yells at me when I put headphones on in the car (because it's antisocial)
-my dad's one of those "no stopping until we reach the destination" drivers

#2: go with my sister/brother-in-law/niece
+good music
+more relaxed atmosphere
-potentially screaming baby in the back seat
-I'd feel like a free-loader for not being able to help drive (my BIL drives stick)
-tied to my sister's schedule which probably means leaving any family gathering by 7 pm

#3: drive by myself
+my music, my schedule, my pace
+could probably get a free-ish premium rental car from a friend and just pay for mileage
-8 hours of driving by myself (longest I've ever done solo is 3 hours and I'd feel bad bringing a friend since they'd be hella bored the whole time since it'll be all family stuff)

i say its a toss up between sister or yourself

i wouldnt mind being in a car with my sis and her family for an hour, for 8, id go by myself if i could afford it. 8 hours is a long trip to be miserable on

Drive with female "friend" that will "keep you awake" the whole trip isn't an option? 🙁

Every time I drive home from school its by myself or with a friend. I would get a couple audio books and just do the drive myself. My latest was 1984 over the 12 hours it took to drive to CT and back.

Driving by yourself is a serious waste of gas and you have to be alert for most of it. I would ride with parents and bring a book (or two). The sister option is also good but a baby can make for a difficult ride.

Definitely by myself. No fighting over the tunes and I regulate the bathroom/food breaks.

I could probably rope a friend into doing it, but I'd feel bad subjecting them to it... I don't even like the extended family on my dad's side, I can't bring myself to make someone's who's not even related to them suffer through it.

Personally I can't stand being a passenger most of the time and certainly not for eight hours. Most people can't drive and they seem to get worse out on the Interstate.

I would make the drive myself, in my clean, comfortable and quiet car away from the annoyance and aggravation of riding with others. 🙂

When you drive yourself you can set the climate control just right, decide when you stop, play the music you want (or not play anyway) and there is no one to muck up your car.

8 hours driving by yourself is nothing. Then you can leave/go at your own schedule, have your own music, etc... That would be my choice.

I thought loki was gay? And anyways, having a "friend" to keep you awake makes an 8 hour drive an overnight stop at a motel ...

No doubt about it...I'd make the drive by myself.

Is it wasteful? Perhaps, but not nearly as bad as getting a ticket for littering when I stop and hide bodies along the side of the road...faster too. Sometimes, it takes a while to find just the right hiding spot.😛
