I'm going to assume you're going somewhere around Toronto since you're in NJ and you said 8 hours north, so what if you flew or took the Greyhound/train?
You could probably find a nice deal to fly into Buffalo and then rent a car to drive from there.
Go with your sister/brother-in-law/niece, probably more interesting to talk to, and if you can't drive stick offer to pay for gas or something.
Good that you have a tolerable sister. Driving with my sister and nephew is a very unpleasant experience. It's gotten so bad that even though I have a full size car now, I refuse to take a trip with them.
I would definitely drive myself. After almost 20 years of driving around the country with my parents and sister, I don't think I could do more than a couple hours in a car with them anymore.
Myself. Bad parent music will make an 8 hour drive seem like 16 hours and a screaming baby will make it seem like 800 hours. 8 hours isn't bad at all. You do 4 hours, stop for lunch, get out and walk around a bit, then do the other 4. Anyone can do it.
At eight hours you'd be just getting comfortable in the seat. Remember the best way to overcome fatigue while driving is to drive faster. Crank the tunes and the eight hours might seem a lot more like six.
If you drive by yourself and you think 8 hours is too much to drive, do it over 2 days. Go find something that's about half way to stop and that has something to see and make it a small sightseeing trip. Someone said you were going to Toronto? Stop at Niagra Falls and check it out. Stay the night and drive the second half the next morning. Makes the drive much less boring.
i'd go with the parents and sleep in the car or take a gadget to listen to music/do stuff on. yea, I saw the part about mom and headphones, but really what are they gonna do?
