8/09/11 Steam Midweek Madness: Terraria 50% off

Going to have to install this and give it a try soon. If only I could stop buying from every steam sale that comes along. 😛

Since I have been following the game to check for new updates daily now, I just went ahead and bought it. I was going to buy it at $10, but wanted to wait until it was more of a complete game, but at $5 I just couldn't pass it up.

Lucky me got it for $2.50 when it was on sale for a few hours during the 4th of July sale. 😀

I'm still sore about that. The $2.50 sale was supposed to last until 1pm (ET) the next day, so I figured I'd buy it after I finished up a few things around the house. Then, when I go to buy it, it was raised to $4.99 over 12 hours before the $2.50 sale should have ended.

I'm not buying it until it hits $2.50 again because Steam shouldn't be rewarded for such an unethical bait and switch.

That's about how I feel. They claim it was a price mistake they corrected, but they had tons of those "price mistakes" during the sale. You'd think after the first one they'd pay more attention, but they either don't care or were never mistakes and they lied.

It wasn't a bait and switch, it was indeed a price mistake. No need to cry about it. The developer caught wind of the pricing error and contacted steam and had them fix the price to what it was supposed to be. You should be glad that they didn't remove access for those that DID get in on the deal - THAT would be bait and switch.

(Needless to say, I bought a 4 pack earlier in the week anyway)

After buying Terraria for super cheap on the summer sale, I feel like I stole the game, and should give them some more money.

In short

BUY THIS GAME NOW.

It is easily worth 20.

Does this game save your profile in the cloud so you can play the same save on multiple pc's?

Steam should have kept it at $2.50 until that day's sales ended and eaten the losses. It is like if a B&M store mis-printed a price in a Sunday paper ad; it doesn't matter if it's wrong - they have to honor it. Same goes for sticker pricing on physical goods at most stores; they know the right thing to do is honor the sticker, even if it was a mistake. To do otherwise is unethical.

Thanks for posting this, I was waiting for a price drop on this because I wasn't sure if I'd get into this genre game or not. After playing it for a bit and realizing how fun it is, it's definitely worth the money, even at it's original price.

I guess I found my new addiction. It's great that the wiki's out there have so much info, I can't wait to start my indoor farm lol.

Someone make a server.

Okay.

terraria.neftastic.com. Default port (7777).

Be nice if anyone else is logged in.

** PLEASE NOTE ** This is running on my home connection, so I apologize if it's a bit weak. Blame AT&T. Also, be forewarned, server might be randomly turned off by a marauding toddler.

Funny, whenever I go to target or walmart, posted on the doors right next to the current weekly ad is a list of price error notices and corrections. I dare you to walk in the store after passing by such a notice and DEMAND they honor the incorrect advertised price.

Steam did just this - they honored the price until the error was noticed, then fixed the error immediately. It's not like they had it listed at $2.50 in your CART and then charged you more when you swiped your card.

Not true, they usually just publish a correction in the next day's paper saying sorry for the price mistake and change any signage to reflect the correct price. Furthermore, with websites they also have those terms and conditions that you agree to when you sign up that always say that in a case of a price mistake, they can cancel the order.

I finally bit. I needed a new "casual" game that I can pickup and put down at will. Definitely need to read some wikis though as I couldn't do much of anything. I was able to chop some stuff, stab some goo, and somehow make and place a torch but that's about it.

I spent 6-7 hours on this game last night, and I am having a hard time finding enough ore to make any armor. I did manage to make a silver pick-axe and an iron broadsword. I seem to find more Silver than anything right now, but I did get quite a bit of copper early on.

I made a "strange looking eye" at the corrupted altar, but I don't want to use it yet as I doubt I can kill the Eye of Cthultu with my current equipment. Not sure what I should do to prepare for that fight though.
