Yep....Gonna be hard to overclock these to their true potential and put more than one of them on a MB without going water cooling. Most aftermarket cooling solutions are gonna be pretty much single card solutions as most MB won't have enough spacing to keep the cards from butting heads :)
I agree. It's a shame very few motherboard manufacturers triple space their PCIe slots.
The hard decision lies in picking up a reference design which will allow the use of full-cover blocks or getting a non-reference with a better VRM and power delivery design but with a very small chance of being able to fit a full-cover block.

Anyone know if the full-cover blocks for the 6000 series cards worked with both reference and non-reference cards?
That depends on your opinion of full-cover blocks - I feel ther're inefficient and too costly, but to each his own. It's going to depend on the non-reference design, since many AIB's each have their own individual designs. I can't think of any non-reference 6000's off the top of my head that were cross-compatible, but it's not something I researched heavily either (understandably).

I hear you, my worry is that in a system designed for silence I don't want to have to set up an extra fan to blow over the VRM and RAM sinks. VRM temps were always the hardest thing to control when I was using universal blocks in the past.

FWIW, EK's new 7970 full-cover block is looking like a performance monster.

Wow that thing looks awesome. I like the idea of WC just to reduce clutter in my case, as well as noise. Don't like the idea of one leak reducing my system to paperweight though :D

There is always that risk but honestly, if you use the right fittings and connectors, the risk is very low. Compression fittings make it almost too easy.

Anyone know what time stores will open their virtual doors for business tomorrow? Blackened23 mentioned 10am in another thread but I haven't seen any solid time yet. I told my boss I'd be an hour late to work but, if the launch isn't happening until 10am, I'll have to rethink that strategy.

Shamino got a 7970. Raised the voltage to 1.17 volts to the core, was able to reach 1650mhz. Subzero cooling though.

My VRM's stay <60C even at 1.3V (stock is 1.1V). I have a 92mm fan running at 7V pointed at them (which is, of course, silent). Also, after their nickel-plated blocks fiasco, I'd be wary of purchasing anything from EK or made by EK.

Do it properly and it isn't an issue. 1/2" barbs, 7/16" tubeing, and hose clamps :).
