I've recently submitted my step-up info to get the 7800gtx 512. I have not heard back from EVGA for about a month. Does anybody know how long this process takes?

It has become vaporware only was available for first week Save your money few will leak to public for next few weeks . If you really want 512 card get x1800xt . This comes form the memory that they use.

vaporware? Well I purchased a 7800GT (256) and I don't know what I should do now. I have an SLI mobo so I would ultimately like to run 2 video cards. Would ram make that much of a difference (2x256 vs 2x512) Or should I just step-up to the 7800gtx (256) edition?

I just want to build a super-rig. Money is not an option for me at the moment. What type of price/performance can I expect from running either: 2x7800gts, 2x7800gtx (256), and 2x7800gtx(512's). I basically have most of my parts (except cpu and ram, but I will use my current ones until I decide which to get). I don't really want to pay an extra $1500 on video cards (step up + another gtx512) if the performance boost will not be that significant.

It is not worth geting 2x7800GTX(512) and will not find them in stock for awhile at they will cost at least $750 each.

2x7800gtx (256) will be faster then two 7800GT but i dont think it is worth the exta $200 or so and since you have one GT itwould be easier for you just to get another one.

Get 2 7800GTs and oc them. Best bang for the buck and they'll perform within about 10% of SLI'd 256MB 7800GTXs.

Awesome.. I guess I will just get another 7800 then.

Last question :). If my step-up goes through, will I be able to use a 7800gtx (512) with a 7800gt(256) or will I need to step up the second video card as well?

Just get another 7800GT. Will perform within ~5-10fps of GTX (hardly worth $200)...and thats with out overclocking, so just crank up the clocks and those 5-10fps will magically dissapear.

With the new drivers, the model # dosn't matter any more. Just make sure a 7800GT is with a 7800GT and not a GTX, get it?

Looks like I have the same one as you do (with the copper heatsink). I am currently ordering my second one as we speak :) Now I just need to decide on a processor and I will be set.

Woo... Check in at the eVGA Forums! There is alot of info on the current step-program situation. Since you're already signed up and in the queue, eVGA is offering a number of promotions. I believe they range in cash back if you already have a SLI set-up to hundreds of dollars off to get a second card to go SLI to staying in the queue and if no GTX 512 becomes available, they'll put you in the queue for the G71(which I think would be your best bet).

I still can't figure out why people talk about the GTX 512 being vaporware. If it was, I wouldn't have received one from TigerDirect last week. As I've mentioned in other threads, TigerDirect has had them in stock several times over the last couple of weeks and ZZF had both the BFG and eVGA models in last week. Unfortunately, they sell out like hot cakes.

OP, check the eVGA forums! You'll get the right answers and info there!

Can you explain to me what vapoware is? Secondly, do you think I should purchase my second 7800gt card. It's in my shopping cart as we speak. Thirdly how much did you pay for your 7800gtx from tigerdirect? (I am in canada so alot of the special deals won't apply to me)

thanks

Very true, at least it wasnt' one of ATI's paper launches.

EDIT (concerning post above about what does that mean):
It means they actually had stuff available from day 1 to sell to people.

Vaporware means it doesn't exist, as no one has ever seen it. I paid $750 at TD but it comes w/ COD2(which I will sell) and I bought it thru fatwallet(you get a 3% cashback if you're a fw member). So, it ends up being around $700.

The questions you need to ask yourself. Do you have a power supply good enough for SLI? What kind of resolutions are you playing at now? Why do you want to go SLI? You shouldn't need a second GT if you're playing under 1600x1200.

The eVGA promotions should count even if you're in Canada. Here is the latest thread:

It means he doesn't want to help you and would rather lash out at other members in here for their opinions, thats all.

Anyway, vaporware refers to a computer component that has been released to the public with VERY limited availability and very hard to find in stock anywhere let alone trying to buy it. That appears to be what the 7800GTX512 has become. Nvidia is discontinuing production on the 7800GTX512 very soon. They are probably focusing on the G71 (next revision of the 7800 family) and that is what may be offered in the eVGA step up queue instead of the extremely hard to come by 7800GTX512.

Go to eVGA forums and look and see what options are open to step up qualified customers who were looking to get a 7800512GTX. You may get a great deal on a second 7800GT so you can SLI instead of flat out buying another one for full price. I don't know exactly what they are offering, so go on and check it out.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you saved me a bunch of cash!!! I picked option 2 (150$ off a second 7800gt) I am a little confused though. The retailer I normally purchase from (ncix.ca canada) is offering this same card at $410 canadian. EVGA was offering this card to me at $299 US + shipping. Would this be a good deal for me to take. Also, it is asking me for a coupon code. I could really use a coupon code to save more cash :D.

Thanks in advance!!!
