Strange is also 13.75 MB cache for Skylake-X (seems for some L4 part?)

I don't think there's any edram. I think the L3 was cut primarily to save power, and let it clock higher. Die savings of course too. It still probably won't clock as high as Kabylake-X but much higher than Broadwell-E.
 
Kaby Lake-X is a LGA2066 part. 7700K is a LGA1151 part.

I completely missed / misunderstood that in this case. Kaby Lake-X then is a pretty weird product.
 
Thanks, Just asking cause I bought a 6700k like 2 weeks ago and its still just sitting on my desk still sealed and unopened collecting dust. I was thinking of returning it in favor of a 7700k and a Z270 motherboard if they are really coming out in October as I still have yet to purchase a motherboard and Memory. I had one or two picked out but never pulled the trigger. Not sure what to do here..?? Either get the Gigabyte Gaming 7 or Gigabyte UD3 Ultra or ditch Z170 all together and go Z270??

Plus there is a possibility that Intel will up the mainstream core count come cannonlake. Then you would be looking at your 4 core kabby and be like.. damn shoulda waited. Keep the 6700k and go at it.

Mainstream core count goes up to 6 with Coffee Lake in 2018, according to PCWatch. There's always something better around the corner.
 
Ok I guess I will just keep the 6700k then but I still need a motherboard. Dont know if I should just get a DDR3 motherboard since I already have DDR3 or should I go DDR4? This stuff is so expensive and I have already blown $340.00 for the 6700k which just dropped down to $319 🙁

Go DDR4. I don't even think there are motherboards that use bog standard DDR3, just the low-voltage stuff.
 
Go DDR4. It isn't appreciably more expensive than DDR3 (You can get 32GB of g.skill 3200 on newegg today for $180 which is the cheapest I've seen for quality DDR4). Plus it's 'the future' and shit.
 
I can't imagine that the X would have much going for it over the K then... Unless the OC potential and stock clock makes a huge difference. But then again you're not just paying more for the KL-X over the KL-K, you're paying more for the motherboard too.

You're paying for probably a soldered IHS, higher stock clocks, and better upgrade path than mainstream boards/chipset.
 
Ok, fair enough. I would question the value of paying a premium for "better upgrade path" though. With Intel changing the HEDT chipset just as frequently as the mainstream ones, as well as being on average 1.5 years behind on the the HEDT platform. If that changes, I may be convinced.

LGA-2066 will be the HEDT platform for 3 years. I think mainstream platform will see updates at a more regular pace.

Coffee Lake muddles things a little bit. It's possible you would see Cannonlake-X while Coffee Lake is still the mainstream desktop processor.
 
So it's not literally the same chip, hence a new chipset ?

The CPU and GPU cores are unchanged, but the fixed functions on the GPU were updated. They tweaked the node while they were at it.

Intel always creates a new chipset for a new release, it's what they do.

I would wait for the 7700k that way you dont have to wait 1 years to get the next new processor.

Where does Intel place the socket leads? In the cpu or in the base?

I ask because the Kabylake-X has 4 cores, 16 PCIE lanes, Turbo-Boost 2. So it is like a 7700k part without integrated graphics. If Intel made a bunch of otherwise high-binned Kaby Lake parts which would otherwise be destined to be 7700k parts, why not (if you're Intel) make these into Kaby Lake-X parts and save some of your investment? This only works if Intel can decide of making a chip 2066 or 1151 after building it.
 
I think the KBL-X die is different (ie: the IGP is completely gone) but either way you can assume that the best KBL-X dies are going to hedge funds and the NSA, not to consumers.
