Wow, surprised a PCI card works with that setup. Feel for you.

The price is sucky, but the 5850 is still there... if you really want one of these, better hit it right now.

I wish Newegg would allow 2 per person for crossfire, it looks like they are OOS now on the 5870

5870 & 5850 has shown up for pre-order on Best Buy for the first time:

XFX 5870 - $390
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+AT...5870&cp=1&lp=1

XFX 5850 - $270
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+AT...5850&cp=1&lp=1

All retailers got this cards for backorder.
What are they doing with it?
Making $$, keeping consumers cash and same time selling new cards to the side for higher price until demand is high, after couple months when demand will fall they'll send you card.
That's why we got a problem. Cards are enough but the are making SPECIAL SHORTAGE of items to hiding them from consumers.
WELCOME TO THE WILD CAPITALISM....

Huh? Best Buy or Amazon doesn't charge you until your order ships. Except is rare circumstances, Newegg doesn't even let you order an item if it's out of stock. The same is true for a host of other reputable online retailers. How exactly then are these stores "keeping consumers cash" since they don't even take your cash until they've shipped the cards to you? It's obvious you're frustrated that these cards are hard to find a month after they were released. It stinks but it's no reason to spin conspiracy theories or completely unsubstantiated allegations.

There are 3 things are making the supply of the 5850 and 5870 so rare.
1) High demand for the product. Prices go up to slow down demand.
2) There is a problem with the chip manufacturing. Right now 20% yield. Low supply prices go up.
3) Most card manufactures are now trying to produce the next 5890 cards. Each takes 2 5870 chips.

I am going to wait for til January now unless the prices come down before then.

Saw a nice deal on the Sapphire Vapor-X card on provantage.com yesterday, $385. Put in a pre-order for one.

Just got this in an email:

The item you have ordered has been discontinued. We recommend you
contact the
Product manufacturer for a direct replacement and reorder. Your order
has been
canceled. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Oh well, so much for that idea.

I saw yesterday that some places are marking these cards up to $470 now.

Pretty close to giving up on this round. My gut tells me that these cards are not going to be widely available until next year.

don't know about "giving up" yet, but I'm a bit frustrated. tsmc is not doing anybody any favors right now, especially themselves. I wonder how pissed amd would need to be to switch production to GF with 32nm? What about nvidia, is it possible that THEY also switch to GF? talk about an own goal for tsmc...

And even at $10,000 it's out of stock. Makes those $700 7800GTX 512s look downright reasonable.

I kid, I kid. It's pretty easy to recognize that as a placeholder price. It'd be fun to find tha kind of pricing at a shop with over 100% pricematching though...

I've given up now. Will look again at the end on the month.

I am about to this same point. My computer is lacking a video card. I have a 21" monitor right now so I have been aiming for the 5870 in hopes of upgrading my monitor some time next year but this has just become sad.

I got a little lucky today. Randomly surfing TigerDirect and they had the Sapphire 5870 on sale in the noon and I didn't expect them to be in stock and would get a backordered email, since everywhere is out of stock. I checked 5 mins ago and my order shipped.
